I try to leave mine with a couple of gallons of water so seals don't dry out. But so far we have not stored ours more than a month without using it again.

If we are storing for more that 1 week I drain the water tank and open the low point drains and open fixtures. I have had water shunk and start algae growing in the tank and it's no fun getting things back to clean. I also pull the anode out of the WH to drain it.

Early Spring of Fall when the temps are cooler I do leave the tanks with water longer but when it's hot I don't.

Before fulltiming I kinda experimented with this to see how often I needed to refresh the water in the tanks. We were in Kansas heat and humidity. I found I could go at least three months so would fill in the spring and drain and refill once in the summer. Prior to that I used to drain at the end of each weekend trip and left it empty until the next trip. I never saw any problems from either approach. While fulltiming I find the water stays just fine for up to about six months. We generally only use the onboard water while on the road, including when overnighting in an rv park. I'm not sure this is the best or worst way or not, it's just the way we do it.

I don't recommend our method of emptying our fresh water tank. http://bamatravelers.blogspot.com

When we decided to store the 5th under cover at a RV Service Center in Del Rio Texas last Spring, to be picked up in Oct. They told us to drain and clean the tanks. When we return we will fill water tank to about 1/2 full and
add 1/2 c bleach, continue filling and then run it thru the system until we can smell the bleach. Let sit for about 2hrs, then drain and refill, run thru system at least 2 times, till we can't smell bleach. Hot water heater is shut off and doesn't get bleach treatment (the anode is pulled out). This bleach treatment is the same used when sanitizing a well.

I checked with the city engineer in Florence, Az, just before we left; their water is great, he stated that as long as the water is chlornated it should last several months???. I left it in from April 4 till July 14 and when I checked, visual/smell, it appeared OK, but I still drained and did the bleach treatment before we left. Of course Sequim's water is a little better!lol
