5th wheel tires
I have a 2010 Montana 3665RE with Goodyear Marathon ST235/80R16 Load Range E tires (Chinese Bombs) that I need to replace. I've had one blowout and the other tires have severe inside tire wear. They have about 10K miles on them. Any suggestions on a good replacement tire. Specifically does anyone have experience with Power King TowMax STR tires? Thanks...

Goodyear "Made in America" steel belted (including the sidewalls) commercial G949's or Goodyear trailer tires - G614. The two tires are very similar in construction. The 949 runs at 80lbs; the 614 at up to 110lbs. The 949 is rated at 3042lbs.; the 614 3750lbs. It's a matter of price from that point forward.

we just came back from a 4100 miles trip with a new set of 235 85 16 bf goodrich after removing the marathon in august .
the tires performed perfectly and we drove a full day in 110 degrees weather in western kansas when we left sept. first .
i checked my tires condition every 2 hours ( pit stop for our dog)
i like my tires , only problem i encounter was in colorado when i checked my wheel torque , i bend over with the torque wrench and my Ipod fell out of my shirt pocket cracking the screen glass

I went from the Missions to the Towmax and had as many problems with them as the Missions. Another "China Bomb" you want nothing to do with. I opted for the Goodyear G614 RST Made in America, tire. Maybe a little overkill but I had enough problems with tires to last a lifetime. Others swear by many of the US Made LT tires. Just make sure they will carry your weight.....

Did anyone who had trouble with the GY tires pull at speeds above 65? These tires are rated for only 65 MPH as are most trailer tires. I try to pull at 55.

We had a blowout on a Marathon at 63. We put on 4 G614's after that. We travel 60-65. The 614's are rated at 75 according to GY website. At the speeds we travel it gives us plenty of 'cushion'.

Tires have probably had ten times as many postings over the years than any other topic. Because so many people have had bad experiences. It would pay to search for the other posts because there is a wealth of information and opinions. One quick note: the 614's need 110 PSI rated rims for the full rated loads, so check the other posts to get additional information.

After you buy your new tires be sure and get a wheel alignment. You noted that you had bad inside wear on your tires. Sounds like you are also out of alignment. I had my two axles aligned because of inside wearing and they were definately out of alignment according to the shop that did it.

When I put tires on the Monte, I had them balanced also! The tires are not balanced when they come from the factory and it really helped! No problems so far since the tire switch!

Another vote for the BF Goodrich Commercial TA's. Got rid of the Mission Timebombs and now have piece of mind.
