Truck Headlight Auto-dimmer

I have a 2016 Chevy 3500HD dually. The auto-dimmer thingie that sits on the dash is way to sensitive, when ever we hit a small patch of shade or small cloud it goes into night conditions which dims the entire dash for up to 3 minutes. Increasing the dashboard brightness does not bring the brightness up to a viewable level. I've asked the chevy dealership about this, all they say is to increase the dashboard brightness level which doesn't help. The dealership says the auto-dimmer feature is tied into the "computer system", of course. Its very annoying while backing up and you cant see the rear view camera. Is there a way to disconnect or defeat the auto-dimmer feature? I rather use the old fashion way of controlling the dashboard brightness with the brightness knob!! Thanks for your helpful input.
