Best 5th wheel hitch
We,be bought a new trailer and now want to replace the 10 year old hitch. I moved over my superglide hitch from my short box ford when we bought a new ford long box. I now want to find a hitch without slide capabilities that will fit on the "industry standard"bed rails. are there brands to avoid or brands that are significantly better than others?

This is a volatile topic but my first question would be does your new Ford have the hockey puck covers in your bed which would indicate that you have a built in under the bed fifth wheel hitch. If that is the case I would go with what ever works with the stock setup. It might be limited to 18 k. If not than you need to decide if you want that style system or the more traditional system that has rails in your bed. I am happy with my Reese but everyone has there favorite.

You'll get a number of folks that are passionate about the hitches they have. iIn my case I kind of built my own. Took an 16K Reese slider and replaced the head with a 20K Reese head. Before anyone gets excited, the idea came from Reese customer service. When I replace what I have I'll probably go with a B&W based on recommendations on this forum. Per your requirements I'd probably look at this one: http://www.turnoverball.com/products...th-wheel-hitch

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the newest name band hitches, Reese, Pullrite, B&W, Curt. They all have their fans. I had a Pullrite Super 5th in my previous long bed Ford. Would have bought another for my current Ford long bed but this truck has the factory hitch prep and Pullrite did not have one to fit at the time. But my current Reese Elite is also a very good hitch. Both have a wrap around latching mechanism to encircle the king pin.

Every body has the best truck, camper, hitch. If you don't believe me just ask them. Check all of them out there are a lot of good hitches.

I've got the Curt Q20 and so far very pleased with it. The base installs directly into the Ford puck system so it is quite convenient to install or remove when necessary, and the hitch itself seems to be quite "idiot-proof", at least so far.

Hi
We have been using the Curt 18K hitch for 7 years now. No complaints.

You can get a Pullrite 25k hitch non-slider that will fit your Ford if you have the built in hitch attachment....got mine for less than $1200 ...the head works the same as the slider, latches the same way and very heavy duty...very glad I bought mine for my F350....Now I can tow anything the truck can pull without worrying about over stressing my hitch setup...also it is easy in and easy out and lighter than the old slider....

I have always been REESE REESE REESE, just switched to a pullrite auto slide, I know you don't need ther slide anymore, I must say I don't know why I didn't switch to this hitch sooner

If you have the Ford pucks and want to convert your pucks to the Industry Standard the folks at TrailerSaver make an excellent adapter. Now if you already have rails rather than the pucks my vote would go to TrailerSaver, expensive but a heck of a nice hitch.

If your truck came with the factory 5th hitch prep package, I would go with the Ford offered hitch. You can get up to a 25k hitch, they are a SNAP to install or remove, you don't have to reinvent the wheel figuring out bed rail mounting and it's a Reese. That's my setup.

FYI several manufacturers made workarounds for our Ford Factory Setups. Curt helped us out so we did not get forced into new hitch!

Reese R20 here. Not recommending it, though it does the job. I'm newer than most here to 5th wheels, so I can't speak from any real experience. It has given me a fairly smooth ride, combined with the Mor/Ryde pinbox, and I can lift it out at the end of the season in 2 parts. But, like I say, I'm new and have nothing to compare it to. I don't know what I don't know.

I have a 2015 F350 Platinum with a Ford puck system. I had a B&W Companion Hitch in my previous truck. The Hitch was alway difficult to get out of the bed of the truck. The base was very heavy. It was a 2 man job to lift the base out of the truck. I purchased a B&W base that fits the puck system from Amazon. This works great and the nice thing about it is that the base is much lighter and smaller that one person can handle removing out of the bed. It is a 20K hitch. Good luck with your decision.
