I re-labeled my battery disconnect many years ago--ON and OFF. I do switch it to OFF when we store our Monty--no power at storage site. With 2 batteries, I have been happy with that process. Go with what works for you! Yes the labeling is a mess!

I have yet to figure out what that Keystone supplied switch does. I turned it off - the lights still worked and the slides still went in and out. On our last, everything but the CO detector shut off. I have a total system switch to install one of these days.

Now, that total system switch and which side to use - in my car race days it, by organization rules, had to be on the + side and the side I normally use. But with that said, virtually everything RV I've read says the - terminal. To use the + side, you are taking all potential out of the system while using the - side, the potential is still there, waiting a screwdriver or whatever to reestablish the full electrical path. But doing it through the + side, maybe not quite so simple. Conundrum since the same argument can be said for each way

If you've looked at Utube on installing a battery - it shows to hook up the Positive first - that way if the wrench touches other metal there is no spark as the circuit to the battery is not complete. If the negative is connected - and the positive is being tightened up the wrench touching other metal gives a pretty good spark which causes me to jerk and hit my head on something - save the headache. FYI

Connect and leave it. A $20 switch connected to the battery will eliminate questions and problems!

The problem with the battery disconnect label is this. In a logical sense (I'm a programmer):

"ON": means "positive" or "true" or "1" or "yes".
"OFF": means "negative" or "false" or "0" or "no".

So when Keystone labels the switch "Disconnect ON", that translates logically to me as "Disconnect is TRUE" or "Yes, the battery is disconnected".

That logic holds for the inverse. "Disconnect OFF" translates logically as "Disconnect is false" or "No, the battery is not disconnected (it's connected)". A double-negative.

The reality is that Keystone means the opposite.

"ON" means the battery is connected.
"OFF" means the battery is not connected (disconnected).

So logically the label is completely misleading. It's more like the switch is called the "Disconnect" switch, but the ON and OFF labels have nothing to do with the word "Disconnect" that precedes it.

The switch should not be read as "Disconnect ON" (Yes, disconnect the battery) and "Disconnect OFF" (No, do not disconnect the battery) otherwise you'll get confused as I did.

Gonna fire up my label maker and re-label "ON" and "OFF" as "CONNECTED" and "DISCONNECTED".

This is a real pet-peeve of mine, as you can tell.

The factory switch is on the positive side, so when I put on a main disconnect I also put it near the battery on the positive side.
