Take Blue Ridge Parkway north to Mabry Mill. Beautiful. Google for pictures.

Remember the Siamese twins, Chang and Eng? They lived in the Mt. Airy area. The Mayberry Campground is on property they owned and that land is still owned by their descendants. Ask about it in the office. They also have pictures there. One of the homes visible and bordering the park is where one of them lived. Also, nearby is a cemetery where they are buried.

Visit the jail, modeled after the one on the Andy Griffith show. You can, if you desire, take a tour of the town, riding in a 60's era car painted to be a police car.

Visit the Bluebird Diner and Snappy Lunch. We ate at the Bluebird. Not that great.

Visit or look in the window of the barbershop, downtown. I'd swear the barber is Floyd. Sure looks like him.

Steve,
The owner is the great grandson of one of the twins. The house isn't open to the public but he will take you on a tour if asked.
Steve, just a point. They both lived there, they were siamese twins.

Jim, are we near any NASCAR garages, say within an hours drive or so? Would love to tour one or two!

Steve,
I believe we are but I'm not sure where they are. Maybe someone can help.

Mooresville is the main town for race shops. Mooresville is a little over an hour south of Mt. Airy. If you google "nascar shop tours mooresville nc" there are several options. I've worked in Mooresville for 12 years and we've lived in the area for for 15 years but never gone to one of the racing shops. I guess it's true that you never go to the places around where you live.

Like Steve said the Blue Ridge parkway. Some of the picnic ares are closed, Budget cuts. Mabry Mill is open. I was up there last week. It is under new management so I don't know how the food is but it is still worth seeing "beautiful".

Gee, that one sure got by me! I know they had two different homes and split time between them, given each wife wanted to keep her own home. Not quite the same as I said, though! Oops on me!
