New 5er

In the process of buying the new 375flf Montana Mountianeer. Wondering if I have enough truck to pull it? I have a 2008 2500 HD Duramax crew 4x4 short box. Would appreciate all info before I take the plunge. I'm supposed to finalize the deal Saturday

I can't find that model - is it a 375FLF maybe?

If so, it would be 15,620 pounds loaded according to Keystone website. Then you just need a brochure for your tow vehicle or go to Trailer Life and get the tow capacity for your truck and be sure to look at the payload - the hitch weight is 2120 according to Keystone website.

Hope that helps.

If Seahunter has been able to find the correct model and its GVWR is 15,620 the truck will be overloaded for sure. The documented pin weight is never a good number (unless you tow unloaded, not!). You can estimate 18% to 25% is at the pin and that number being 2,800 to 3,900 lb in this case and even a 1 ton may not work. The rear axle will be the biggest concern and I fear at least a dually is required with that GVWR.

I learned that the dealer's suggestion to "don't load it so much" is a bunch of hogwash. There will be times you need to drive with full tanks to a dump station and you'll have a concern. But still just know that others do chance it and don't have a problem.

The concern is not the engine and trans (they are often the same combination even with larger trucks). There are too many other components of concern that determine a vehicle's weight rating and if those rig numbers are accurate, I'd be concerned with a 3/4 ton truck.

Good luck on your decision.

Please note Art is pulling his camper with a F250 Ford. He has beefed up the suspension and put bigger tires on it. If he didn't think that was safe he wouldn't be pulling his camper with it. You can do the exact same thing with your truck, and it WILL be safe.

Some are concerned with ratings and spec's and some are not. If you do have a concern about staying within the ratings and spec's of the RV you are pulling the get the truck that stays within them.At least understand and know what the ratings and specs are then make the decision one way or the other.

I agree, those factory pin weights are a figment of someone's Imagination. Our pin weight is listed as just over 1700, real weight as weighted at the Fall Rally 2600, almost a 1000 pounds more than spec. So even if you're only half that, you'll be pushing if not over your TV. As said, your choice, just be aware of where you stand.

At over 15k GW, the PW will be north of 3k...which will be way over the GVWR of any 3/4 ton diesel.

Thanks for all the info. I decided to call off the deal, am going to downsize a little and looking at the Montana High Country series they run 9,500 +/- a couple hundred pounds seems like that is more suitable for me and my truck!

LOL - Well, two good points for ammunition it seems the lovely ladies like... dual climate control, and the HEATED seats. My wife absolutely loves that she can be 76+ degrees and with the heated seats on, while I have mine set at 65 degrees with the seats on cool. Good place to start. Then there's always the "this diesel engine will last a lifetime" approach
