Same problem is discussed as TOPIC_ID=22684 in Repairs and Service Section.

One post here said you must have the black tank drain valve open when using the flush system...that's what the sticker says, but that's just a CYA to keep you from overflowing it. Nothing to do with venting it. The tank itself is vented...one of those roof vents. If you look at the many posts in the Forum re black tank operation, you will find that many folks use the tank flush system with the drain valve closed to fill the tank for cleaning. We do so at least once a week. Just DON'T let your attention get diverted while doing it. 7 min is our "empty to full" timing. Actually, it is probably closer to 8-9 min, but no need to "push the envelope". Time it yourself for your rig (two person project) for reference. But, Hey, that's what the Forum is all about....

patodonn,

Like Glenn, I too have had the misfortune to get distracted, twice. Both times the damage was minor. From experience, I now know that 7 minutes is pretty accurate, but once when the water pressure was high, I got lucky and averted a catastrophe. I now use 5 minutes and the timer is with me the whole time!
