oven won't light
Hi all. Anyone have the problem of their oven refusing to light? The top burners all light but the oven won't, even with a lighter with the knob in the 'on' position. We just finished our first trip with our new 3400RL (to Boothbay Harbor in Maine). I'll post on that tomorrow but I wanted to check and see if anyone had info on the oven.

Captbanjo, With mine I have to turn it to pilot on and wait for about 30 sec. or more before putting the lighter in to light it. When I first tried to light it I would try as soon as I turned the knob on and it just would not work. Just be careful and let us know if this will work for you.

same here. i have to turn the knob to pilot, then use a long lighter and light the pilot light. it is back in behind the actual burner. it has a little temperature sensor where the pilot is.
i have to heat this sensor up with the lighter and then the pilot will stay lit. once the pilot lights you can turn the control knob to the desired temperature. the burner should light after about 10 to 20 seconds.
hope this helps

The pilot on ours won't light with the knob on "pilot on". We have to turn the knob to "200", then we can light the pilot. Once the pilot is settled we can turn the knob to a higher temperature and after a delay it will light the burner. I assume it's a problem with calibration of the knob on ours.

Im guessing here, I know gas furnace's have thermal couples and its a good chance that may be the problem. Used to live in a house with a gas furnace and it was about every two years had to replace the thermal couple because it would be a bear to get it lit, even did the turned up the furnace and threw a match at it. POOF!!! and off it would go....hopefully Im wiser these days !

We are in the same shape as Steve. To light we turn it up a bit, almost to 200. Once lit, we can turn it down and the pilot stays on. When you turn up the heat to cook, the pilot flame gets bigger and heats up the little bulb hotter until it decides it's ready then .... WOOF.... the main burner lights. Seems to be normal operation for these things. Once your used to it it works fine.

I think beside turning pilot on You have to hold the knob down. Holding it down sends more gas to light easier.
IIRC

Well, darn, I learned something today. Ours is a Suburban oven but I just checked and the button does push in when in the Pilot On position. Pushed it and was able to light the pilot without turning the knob to 200. Thanks, Party of Five!

You still have to stand on your head, Mel. I'd like to see some kind of electronic ignition but that apparently isn't going to happen. Don't forget to continue to hold the knob in to give the pilot light time to heat the thermocouple. Our home water heater said to hold it for 30 seconds but when I tried it on the oven a bit ago, 10 seconds worked for me.

Well then I will probably still make him do it. It's one of the only things he does while we are camping anyway. LOL That or yell at the kids for going in and out too much.
