1 1/4 inch Rear Receiver

On another topic thread there was some discussion on the warranty issues of a rear receiver on the Montana trailers. If the issue for Montana/Keystone is hitch weight, why not offer a 1 1/4 inch Class II receiver? This would limit its use to bicycle racks and other such fairly light applications.

It is my understanding that any hitch on the rear of the Montana is grounds for chassis warrant voiding. I wouldn't take a chance. It's not worth it. MIMF is the authority on this. Maybe he will wade in and convince you that you shouldn't do it regardless of the weight being planned.

Oh I don't plan to do it, I think Montana/Keystone should offer it.

Dennis,

There are several Keystone products that have as standard equipment or optional a 11/4" reciever for the installation of a bike rack. And a bike rack only that supports 200 pounds of weight.

Zeplin is one that I know of for sure. There maybe a couple of others. The Mountaineer has a slide out rear bumper that is to be used as a bike rack. The Couger had the same set up. I'm not sure if it still does.

Our 2004 Outback that we had last year had a 4" square bumper. I mounted a clamp or bolt on style 4 place bike rack and it worked OK. When we traded for the Challenger, there was no place to mount the bike rack. So, Gail and I bought a pair of folding camping bikes fromCW and store those in the front compartment between the landing gear. Works out great!

Anybody want to buy a good used 4 place Reese bike rack? It's taking up space in my garage.

Sweetfire,

I have been confering with the powers that be.

The answer to your question is yes. However, only if it is brought to our shop in Goshen so that we can make sure that it would be installed properly. If you bring it to us, for the price of the parts and labor, we would be willing to do it without any effect on the warranty left on the frame.

So, if you may be planning to float thru Northern Indana in the next few months, give us a call and we can do it or quote a price.

Dale

Sweetfire,

I forgot to mention that they also said that if you would like to have the pull out style that is used on the Mountaineer and Cougar, we could do that also. It would be a bit more pricy but, it could be done.

And at the same time talk you into springing for the electric one piece rear stabilizers.

Dennis and Leona,

Like I've said before. If you decide you want to do this and are coming thru the Elkhart County area, give us a call a couple days ahead and we will be very happy to set it up. We have a bunch of very talented service techs. Heck, if I have time, I'd be delighted to set and swap fire service war stories with you.

We could git 'er done in less than a day and you'd be on your way.

Travel safe.

Send a message via MSN to Fordzilla
We'll be there for the fall rally. I may have to look you up then as well. I have been thinking about the electric stabilizer jacks as well. Thanks
