wschexnaydre,
My understanding is that the top lock is one you could use so that a service person could get in without you leaving them a special key. The lower lock (the one I use) is a personal lock and does not have a master, so there is no reason to change the lower lock if that is the one you use.
Peace!

just read in the paper tonight that FEMA found out that their trailers have only 5 different locks on them so they are going to spend money and put different locks on all of them. Wait until they find out all storage compartments have the same key.

I was going to change the deadbolt lock, but then I couldn't open it with a butter knife when I forget my keys.
Seriously - when we were looking at RVs after hours, I was able unlock and relock most of them with my toolbox key. Not sure if a better lockset is available.

The cross bed, Gull Wing toolboxes are similar security and key wise. I have a fortune in tools and parts in mine, so I went to a locksmith and bought real good round keyed locks. I have had them for the last 3 toolboxes, just pull them off and change them out. I went to a locksmith training class, learned how to pick locks. It is 'stupid' easy to get into a cheap lock. Like you said, Brad, most toolbox keys open access panels on many things.
I keep three thermostat locking cover keys on my key chain, whenever a pool ball gets hung up, my thermostat key will open the pool table ball access.
Get the round key locks and change the locks out on your hatches, it's really easy.

I also changed the "key" locks on my outside doors to a combo locks, it's nice not having to always having a key in your pocket. Also added the combo locks to the propane tank doors, just keep them unlocked when in use (for safety).
Here's the link to the company I bought them from, nice peaple to work with.

Thanks Kim and Ozz,
I'll look into both styles (I have never seen those combo locks before). Are both available to replace the main entry door locks?

I haven't changed locks on the hatches because I'm not sure it's worth the expense. I can pop mine open with a screwdriver in about 3 seconds, even when locked. I've done it when there was a malfunction. I'd think before I'd put money in locks for the storage locker doors I'd find some way to make them more generally secure.
See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

We installed a regular house dead bolt on our last two fivers and two class a m/h. A trip to Home Depot and a hole saw were all it took.

Ozz,
I think you took off the brinks safe on your Monty to install something. How long, how much time should I allow for a thief to take it, the safe, out of the trailer?
How long does it take to break a window, or a lock to get in? I would think that they would steal a TV before trying to lug a Monty around.
Back to the OP question would it be worth the money to change locks out? Are there screw drivers and other things that would just by pass your your invested money in a new lock?
