Slideout/carpet wear

We have noticed the carpet is starting to show signs of wear at each end of the main slide. There is a groove about a half inch wide by about 2 feet long that is starting to matt the carpet. It seems to be getting worse with more use. Our slide has a dinette booth and jack-knife sofa on it. I looked under the carpet attached to the slide and found a white plastic material that is attached to the floor and runs the length of the slide. I noticed that it also has a worn place in it that is about the same width and at the same location as the carpet.

It seems to me that runners on the slideout are wearing this plastic down and causing the abnormal wear on the carpet. Looks like a harder material would not have worn as much. Any ideas on how to repair this or is it a matter of adjusting the slideout?

I'm not sure what the slideout bottom looks like and I have no idea what adjustment in the slide would help this. The slide seems to seal pretty well when out, but the bottom front (towards the truck) needs to be pushed in about a half inch to seal like it is at the top.

We have had the trailer about 28 months. It did not see much use the first year, but has been used heavily since then.

I was at a local RV parts house the other day and say something that may help. I don't remember the name, it looked new. There were two plastic pieces about 44-48' in lenght and six inches wide that are made to be put on the floor where the rollers would be for the slides. Looks like it will spread the weight and remove any runner grooves in the carpet. I will try to get back over and get the name.

Glenn is talking about the plastic pieces that we purchased recently. We got two pkgs, 2 plastic pieces in each pkg, and now use them under the edges of both the big slides. Work wonderfully but cost about $40/pkg. They're called Slideout Slickers and come from Lippert I believe. MIMF can verify this, I believe.

This sounds like something we'd like to look into as well. Dale ... will you be bringing any of these to the Rally? Hopefully he will see this before the Rally!

mobrownies,

My '05 Challenger has two rooms that do the same thing. It is somewhat an adjustment. At your convenience give me a call and I will describe what you can do that may help. 866-524-7821 ect. 4542.

Now, for the Lippert slide-out slickers. They are designed for that purpose, to protect flooring. I will be bringing them to the rally for sale. I do not know yet what the price will be. There will be a set given away as a door prize if a drawing takes place. Whoever the winner is will get enough of those slickers to cover the rooms affected. My coach has them and will be demonstrated if asked.

Everybody have a great day.

Dale,

If you are having wear on your carpet is this normal from use or do your slides need to be adjusted? We have a brand new 3400 so no wear yet but would like to file this information away to pull out when needed.

We have throw carpets to protect most of our heavy traffic areas to prevent having to replace the carpet. Would you suggest that the protectors be purchased as a preventive measure? Where would you get these, I haven't seen them at CW?

Thanks,
Colleen

Dale, what is the rally price for the slide slickers?

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Just had our carpet cleaned not an hour ago!

I would be interested in a set or two myself. Nice that Lippert is being so generous and offering them as door prizes, that's awesome MIMF. Wish we were going to the rally...
Let us know about price.
thanks,

I have a set of them and they work great. I would recommend that they are a must if you have a slide out. We have a 3475 and I use them on both slides in the rear of the coach. I paid 35 dollars for mine.

Oops, sorry, Dale. Vicki pointed out you earlier said you do not yet know the rally price. I missed that point.

FYI as follow-up info. I had a real nice conversation with MIMF2 and got a couple of pointers on adjusting the slide, however the wear in the plastic ramp is not normal and is not a matter of slide adjustment. So my next move will be to call Keystone to see what they suggest. Whatever is causing the wear in the white plastic ramp is probably marking the carpet. I suspect that the screws fastening the bottom of the slide to the side walls is part or all of the problem.

More follow-up. I called Keystone Customer Service today and talked to Tony. He suggested that it was a slide adjustment problem, so I told him of my converstation with MIMF2. He then suggested that I take it to a dealer to have it looked at. He acknowledged that it was not normal to have the plastic ramp worn out in 2-3 years. He said they did not have a repair kit for it. He also did not offer any hope that Keystone would pay for correction.

I think I know where this is going as I have not found Keystone to be very responsive. Could be a case of triptus interuptus developing.

I too have seen some neat looking white flat plastic slates that you place at the end and under the slide before they are brought in. They were called "Slide Glides" - about $35 per set. Since, at the time, I thought they were WAY OVER PRICED (having about 10cents of material) I decided not to buy them at the GOD AWFUL HIGH RV Dealership. I have never seen them again, and would now perhaps pay the price if I found them again.

Thanks Dieselguy,

Sometimes you gotta pay to get what you want. By the way, how long and how far have you towed your boat? Any problems, issues, concerns?

I edited dieselguys post to reduce the picture size. I screwed up. I deleted it by mistake. I am sorry dieselguy. Here is the content of the deleted post.

I ordered mine over the phone as the business is located right here in Kansas. http://www.quickdrawproducts.com/ is the website which also lists the phone number. Although pricey ... they really do work. Sometimes you just have to buy stuff and not look back! Ha!

As not to hijack this thread Rick, I've sent a PM to answer your questions about triple towing out here in the midwest. And moderator ... I'll reduce my tinypic size to eliminate the right to left scrolling. No problem, just technically challenged.

Dieselguy, if you need help resizing, click the email link and send me your address and I'll send you mine so you can send me the picture. I'll resize it for you if you want. I see you are from Salina. I have two aunts still living in Salina and used to have cousins there. I lived a few years south of you in McPherson before moving to Wamego, up by Manhattan.

Dale, would you be willing to maybe do a little seminar at the rally about how to adjust the slides? I was scared stiff about adjusting the slides until you showed me how in Minden. It's not difficult once the proper technique is understood but until then it was too daunting for me. I have successfully adjusted these slides after you showed me how.

Mobrownies, please let us know how this turns out.
