No Water in Hot Water Taps

I turn the taps on and no water comes out of the hot water taps. There isn't any water coming out of the lower drain pipe either.
Fact:
The bi-pass is not turned off.
There was hot water for our showers this am.
There is water coming out of the relief valve outside when pressed.
The water dribbles out of the hot water taps when turned on full.

So far I have:
Taken the plug out of the bottom of the water heater and rinsed all the anode filings out. Still no water coming out of taps.

My thoughts:
There is a blockage in the line coming out of the hot water tank at the outlet at the top of the water heater.

My thoughts on possible solution:
Drain the water heater by taking out the plug at the bottom of the water heater. (anode)
Put air pressure through line from the low lever line under the rig and possibly blow whatever is blocking the line back into the water heater.

Any other suggestions are welcome

I haven't had this problem, but there is a check valve in the output of the hot water tank that a number of people have had a problem with. If everything else works, I'd suspect the check valve. Search for it...there have been a number of posts about it.

Good luck, and have an otherwise merry Christmas,

Bob

I agree with Bob

Sounds like the check valve in the water line from the hot water tank.

Hi Bill,

As others have said, could be the check valve. Sounds like you are working through the possibilites methodicaly. That seems like the way to go. Look for a simple fix first, but you know that. Good luck. ...and please do let us know what you find.

Just another thought - why don't you try opening the by-pass? that might tell you something about where water is flowing and not flowing, also it migh just shake things up enough to free whatever is causing the problem. ...Or try the pump, that might shake things free.

1) That check valve is gonna stop this idea from working as its designed to allow water to come out of heater only.
2) Do you have hot water coming out of the shower, presently?
3) Have you turned the bypass valve to bypass and confirmed your gettting cold water out the hot side of faucets?
>If answer to 2 is no, and 3 is yes...time to drain hot water tank and pull the check valve to determine if it is plugged.

I have not had to replace my check valve but I believe it's plastic. If possible replace it with a brass one. This might just be something to do before it goes bad and the you don't have to worry.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It was the check valve. I replaced the fitting on the top of the tank and it solved the problem. The fitting is brass but the check valve inside the fitting is plastic.
