CPAP

For those who use a CPAP, how do you power it when you do not have 110V?

I run mine on the 12v. When I got mine I bought the 12volt adapter plug. I have never had it run down my batteries. Runs cpap with the humidifier attached.

My machine has a socket which looks like it takes a 12V adapter. I have not tried to use it that way but would like to. For those with the adpater cord, caqn anyne tell me the polarity of the socket. Also, where did you get adapter.

My DC12v power converter is model #33942 by ResMed. For ResMed model #S8.
In my closet I have a 12v plug looks like a cig lighter plugs right into that.
I got it where I got the CPAP. If you do a search for ResMed CPAP you can get it online.
Hope info helps.

RADHAZJOE,
The machine should have the polarity stamped on it. Look very closely where the plug is as it should be there. If it's not there then look in the users booklet. I don't even know where mine is any more. You can always call the company and I'm sure they can tell you.

Good luck.

Hi Everyone,
I haven't been on in a while. I have to admit I stumped. I went to the site, but still don't know what a CPAP is. Some kind of breathing machine?
Thanks

Constant positive assistance pressure. Some people stop breathing when asleep for up to several minutes, due to many physical, medical, or nuerological reasons. This causes them to at least partially awaken, interrupting REM sleep and just generally ruining the quality of sleep. The CPAP provides the sufficient pressure to keep the airway open just enough to prevent the stopped breathing. It involves a low pressure compressor and some type of face mask.
This is shortened explanation but I hope it helps.

Also to clarify the reason that this sleep apnea is a dangerous ailment, when one doesn't breath, the carbon dioxide in the blood rises. This can lead to all sorts of natsy things: stroke, heart attack, etc.

I use a small cigarette lighter plug inverter for power with a short extension cord to where my machine is. The CPAP has the amp draw posted somewhere on the bottom - mine says 1.0 A MAX.

My CPAP says it draws 3 Amps DC at 12V. I figured it out and also got a universal cigarette lighter adapter at Radio Shack for 9.99 with a plug the right size. The center pin on the socket and plug is positive. Used it all night last night using the DC socket next to the TV amp switch. It worked well. If you don't want to spend the almost three times as much I was quoted for the RESMED equivalent, take your CPAP to Radio Shack or any electronic supply store.

Last night in the greater Vancouver area we had major power outages. I went for my old Cpap machine that was 110/12 volt plugged it in it showed only 4 inches of h2o. I didn't know how to increase it so today I went my therapist and she showed me how to reset the machine. We should all learn how to reset these machines so if it goes out of settings we can reajust them. It is better than anight of no rest.
