Prayers being sent. Our son was born with a hole in his diaphragm. They used an ECMO machine on him. Not sure what is wrong, but you might ask. May God be with Luke and family.

Grandchild number 12 was born yesterday. Cindy and I have surely been blessed. We have a close family and are very fortunate.

However, little Luke is currently fighting for his young life and we are headed to Northwestern Hospital in Chicago in the morning to see him.

Cindy is doing the final hand sewing on his quilt, a tradition she started when our first grandchild was born 15 years ago. We are trying not to dwell on what could happen but our hearts are heavy tonight.

I know our MOC family will include us in their prayers, and for that we are forever grateful. Thanks to all.

UPDATE: 11/12/14
The fight is still on! Luke was placed in a big boy incubator! His bilirubin levels improved and he no longer requires his biliblanket, just the light. His chromosome panel revealed the correct number of chromosomes but the physicians want more detailed tests, some things are indicating a chromosomal disorder that may shorten his life expectancy and alter his plan of care. They sent for a more detailed panel today and are not sure when the results will come back. He had an x-ray of his stomach to investigate why he is not tolerating his increased feedings. He also had an echo to check on the status of his lung disease and heart function.

Still critical....the fight continues....we are hopeful and praying daily.

Thank you for your update. So sorry the little guy has to go thru this. May God give your family His comfort, wisdom, knowledge and peace during this time of great concern and all of the unknown. I pray He make the unknown ..known. Amen

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you and your family! May God wrap his arms around you all and give you strength as you go through this rough time and that he will guide the Dr's to find the answers they need to help this little one! (((Hugs to all)))

Glad to hear little Luke can finally be home with his family. Settling in with a special child is a very special time for all the family. I am sure they are glad to finally meet him.

I thank God for His many blessings and for hearing the prayers for your precious grandson. May He continue pouring out His blessings on the family and on the health of this wee one. . Much love to your family.

Haven't been on in a while, and it is always sad to hear such news, but poor baby Luke will be getting our prayers, too.

Prayers needed again

Over 3 years ago our grandson Luke began his young life with a fight for life. Over the past 3 years we have watched him grow and develop into a happy social little guy. Many of his expected issues he has overcome.

Yesterday at 2pm the Doctor's at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago performed open heart surgery on our little guy. Tonight grandma and I are with his brothers and sister at the house. Mom and Dad are waiting and praying at the hospital for a good recovery. The next 48 hours will be critical.

If there was anyone that deserved a chance at life it would be this little guy. After the nurse drew several vials of blood this week at the hospital Luke asked her "test done?". She told him it was and he smiled at her and said "okay, thank you". As soon as he figured out how to ride a small trike around the halls this week pulling his monitors with him he visited other patients, smiling the whole time and telling them to get well. If you ever met this 3 year old you would never forget him.

Please keep Luke and his medical team in your prayers.

Your post has me in tears this morning. It would be an honor to pray for little Luke. I will also pray for his medical team, his parents, siblings and for his grandparents.

Thank you for your kind words and prayers. Surgeon and his team spent almost 7 hours working on Luke and they believe they have corrected his heart issues. Late this afternoon they removed his breathing tube and so far no complications. Recovery will be slow but we are feeling good about it tonight.
