Another Keystone Montana RECALL
I received a Safety Recall Notice from Keystone today. I have a 2011 model 3400RL with a factory installed generator. The notice states, "It has been decide some IOTA ITS-50R transfer switches are experiencing heat related failures when exposed to the elevated electrical loads associated with RV use in higher ambient temperatures. The failure is causing connections and wiring in the transfer switch to degrade and heat leading to elevated case temperatures and an increased risk of electrical damage to other appliances from loss of neutral in a 240V circuit. Continued use of the vehicle without replacing the transfer switch increases the risk of fire, personal injury, and property damage."
Keystone will replace the IOTA switch with a different brand transfer switch supplied by Keystone.
As soon as possible, make an appointment to have your RV serviced by your dealership.
Assuming you have a similar year/model Montana with a generator or generator prep, you should also get a letter from Keystone. This is just a head's up.
Good luck.
Walt

It came on a SamAlert on Jan 31 and includes 2009-2011 Montana, 2010-2011 Mountaineer with the above mentioned gen prep with IOTA ITS-50R transfer switch. I believe the 2012 models have a Progressive Dynamics transfer switch. At least I think it was when I installed my EMS.

That is odd, our 2011 3750FL came from the factory with a Progressive Dynamics automatic transfer switch. Wonder if the Iota's were replaced with the later runs that year, seems like our rig came off the line is late September if I remember correctly.

We received the letter yesterday, I am taking it in today and leaving it for replacement, we never had any issues with the one that is there now, but someone did I guess.

All I know is that Iota stopped offering the 50 Amp version as an option. I recently needed one and went with a different brand.

If I have the generator prep package but no generator do I still need to comply with the recall ?
Stopped by the dealership today in Georgetown, Texas and they knew no details or answers to that question.
Thanks for any advice.

Does anybody have an idea where the transfer switch would be located on a 347THT.
Thanks in advance.

Got mine scheduled for next week. I do have the gen prep package, with no gen, but I'll get it done anyway. The next owner of my rig, assuming that I don't run it into the ground, might need that switch!!

Has anyone had their switch replaced yet? My dealer notified me a week before I got the letter from Keystone but as of last week they have not got the replacement parts in yet. I guess as long as there is not a heavy load on the switch there is not a problem just don't want a fire. Don't know what is taking so long. George

Maybe I am restating things that you all may know, but I installed an IOTA ITS 50-R after market and was concerned about this recall. So today I called IOTA and talked with one of their techs. His name was Dave, and he told me the problem is not with the switch itself, but with the way the RV manufacturer has installed them and the torque on the lugs on the buss bar. After reading the recall notice on the Keystone website: http://www.keystonerv.com/media2/pdf...%20-%20Web.pdf
this would seem to be true.
The rep at IOTA, Dave, indicated that if the lugs on the buss bar are secure, everything should be fine. I asked if a drop of “Loctite” on the lug would help and he said it would not hurt, but that the lug tightnest should be part of a regular inspection.

Jackel1959:
If my memory serves me correctly, there were other posts of a previous recall to tighten the lugs. Keystone may have completed that recall and still encountered some problems and decided the best course of action is to replace them completely. Most likely IOTA is not to happy because all the new installs are Progressive Dynamics.
