New Awning in Windy Condiyions
I've owned my new 3000RK for about 4 months and like the remote control part of it. The one complaint I have is all it takes is a strong breeze to lift it up whereas my old trailer 2001 didn't do anything but flutter a little. Do some of you use some kind of anchor to weigh it down? The screw in the ground type with rope on each end to tie off. Know that there will be some good ideas out there for this problem.

We did it manually for years. For us it's a real pleasure to just push a button! But, like you say, it does rattle more. We have discovered if we pull it in a few feet, it tightens up and doesn't do that. If the wind picks up even more, then we pull it in further, or all the way in. If we had it screwed down, we couldn't pull it in by just pushing a button -- and that is the feature we like best. When the sun goes down we usually push the button. In the morning we push it again.

I discovered a easy way to hold ours down in Key West on a Class A with the same electric awning as we have. They used 2- 3 or 5 gallon buckets, two bungees, two large swim noodles and a hank of cheap rope. The rope goes through the noodles. The noodles go over the ends of the awning arms, this way the rope never touches the awning. The buckets are never filled more than half full. the rope is attached to the buckets with the two bungees, one on each bucket. This arrangement has held well in winds up to 40 at which point the buckets started to lift. When the buckets start to bounce I then just bump the noodles over the end of the awning and off. Then I just roll the awning up as usual. This also dampens the flapping and protects the awning from sharp shocks... Dave

I well have to check out your setup at the fall rally.
Sounds quite unique!

Bill,
I've seen Dave's and it's a really slick set-up. I'm going to do the same thing with my awning.

Thanks for the input. May have to try both methods.
