Hard Wiring a Autoformer

After reading Bingo's posting and wondered why he was disconnecting the opposite power source while he was using the Iota switch I emailed Iota about getting feed back from a gen set to the Autoformer and if you are using their switch the Gen Set power will not feed through the Autoformer. So when I get an Autoformer I will wire it in to one side of the switch and use a portable surge protector to use at what ever source that I am using.
Here is the answer from Iota and my email.
Hi Don,

You should have no problems. All neutrals and hot legs are isolated in our ITS switches.

You are correct in thinking that neutrals from two power sources should not be tied together.

If you have further questions, just let me know.

Thanks,

Jay Settlemyre

Subject:

I have a 2008 Montana with a Shorepower or Gen set Iota switch. If I hook to Shore power will it feed back to the Gen set side or Gen set feed back to the Shorepower side. I would like to hard wire a Autoformer to the Shorepower cable and do not want any back feed from my Gen set to the Autoformer as they are damaged by Gen sets

Thanks for any help

Don,
For clarification purposes, in my wiring schematic the autoformer is not hard-wired simply so I can remove it if needed. It will not be physically disconnected unless I remove it from the unit. The opposite power source statement I am not sure about since nothing will be disconnected other than the shore line feeds to the rig. I stil agree with the portable surge protector at the post on campground power to protect the autoformer. Did I misunderstand anything??

On your drawings it looked like you unpluged one power source and then plugged in the one you where using

Shore power cord from the rear hookup into the battery compartment stays intact at all times. Other connector being installed is for generator (although it can also be used for shore power). Obviously, both will not be hooked up at the same time since both would not be needed at the same time. Sorry if it was confusing in that aspect, the generator is an external gas powered one, it is not part of the gen-set prep.

You could wire a cord into the genset prep through the switch if you 5er is so equipped
