Montana went thru the rear glass
Well Dummy me, I said I had plenty of room between the RV and Truck to make the turns with out using the slider. Today I made a hard turn and the Montana came thru the rear window. No damage to the truck except the window and my pride. And no damage to the Montana. It was a wakeup call for me. From now on I will use the slider when backing in using a sharp turns. A new window will be installed tomarrow. And I will watch it from now on. Just a little reminder to be carefull for everyone using the short bed trucks.

You must have been on an uneven surface. I can do a 90 deg without coming near the window. I have the short bed without a slider.

I am really sorry to hear about the damage, but glad it was not worse! I also appreciate your honesty in telling what happened; we all learn from each other's mistakes (and successess)! Hopefully this will soon be something you can at least smile about over an adult beverage! Safe and happy travels!

Would be interesting to see the difference(s) between the pin box installed on your rig vs. Bill & Ann. My Mountaineer had a long snout (pin box or whatever the thing is really called) and my boss got same model and his is about 4 inches shorter (his is one year newer).
I guess tinypic has trashed my signature pic. Oh well, time to find a new one I guess

So glad to hear that the only damage was to the glass. Glad I have the Superglide, one less thing for me to worry about while on the road.

Have been there and done that only not with my Monte. I previously had a Prowler before Monte came along. I am a little gun shy as you will also be even with the slider. I think it only cost $450.00 to learn that as I had $500.00 deductable... Mine was only the glass that popped as we were backing on uneven ground. Glad for you that nothing else happened. Takes a lot of extra vaccuming even though the glass shop vaccumed it out after breakage. They didn't do a good enough job for me or I am to picky...JB

So sorry that happened Ken . That probably would have scared me right out the door of the truck .
I tested the new nose of our 3400 on our shortbed, and it still will hit. Unfortunately it will be the cab and not the window. I've used my slider more with the new nose than I ever did with the nose on our 2003.

Yep, my little tight turning mistake cost me the $500.00 deductable, and a rental car for 6 days while my truck was being fixed. Unfortunately for me, I also dented the side cab next to the window. It's a privacy power slide window which in itself costs over $600.00, so it definitely was a costly mistake. The collision guy felt bad because the window guy got silicone all over one of the rear seat belts, and head liner, so he knocked $200.00 off the deductable charge, so that paid for the rental car and gas. EVERY time I make a turn now, I'm looking at that rear window...LOL Hang in there, it'll be nothing but a bad memory before you know it...although I don't know if I'll ever get that breaking glass sound out of my head...LOL

It's not the short bed truck causing the problem - its the Monty hitting it

Glad to hear there wasn't anymore damage than you had and nobody got hurt. At least you didn't drop the trailer in your bed...like my neighbors friend did a few months ago...yikes. Be careful out there and happy travels!

Ken,,,,, i know this might hurt. i looked though my Perry, Ga notes where someone said 'if you get a short bed truck, Get a slider and always use it". (Not gonna post the Authors name) Scratching through that note and changing it to read Get Long Bed Truck. Sorry to hear about the window and hope this might give you a little chuckle. Be wear of those "Future newbi owners that take note, for it may come back later" Kidding as you know.

I was told when we picked up our Mountaineer that they had a longer pinbox they used on some vehicles. Wish I would have gotten it.
I came oh so close to hitting the cab on the way down to the RGV in January. I was trying to get in a tight place to fuel. I ended up having to back up some to avoid the crunch.

There's a saying in aviation about "tweaking an airplane" ""There's those that have and those that will"" I guess we can say that about Montys and SB Trucks. (mine included). I just hope when it happens that it will just be a tap.....lol

I am learning so much from these kinds of discussions...when the day comes that we get a 5'er, I'll be loaded for bear.
So sorry to hear that this happened to you ken...I too have had a couple scrapes (trees have teeth), boy, does it hurt...no matter how many times you do it right, when it happens you feel like an newbie all over again.

Agree about learning from this forum. Was on it a year before we purchased the truck or 3400. Got the long bed truck. no worries about dinging the window. Had this thing more than jacknifed. Got the 1 ton and the dually, No worries about GVWR or pin weight. The 1 ton, CC, LB Dually is a pain in the butt to drive around..but that is the price we pay for doing what we do...

Thats the reason I went with a short bed truck when I ordered it. I didn't want to try and park that puppy when I ran errands and everyday driving around. Of course, that deductable would have paid for quite a bit of fuel while running those errands...LOL Ah well, live and hopefully learn...:-)

...been there done that... a couple of years ago at the beach.
Monty came thru the rear window on our shortbed Dodge. I was on uneven ground making a sharp turn and forgot to compensate for that. Hubby got a new rear window with the sliding window that he had been wanting. Insurance paid for it all.
