Sad ending

Here in southern Oregon there was a sad ending to the story of the missing Kim family when they found the body of the husband/father today. Most of us around here know better than to take that road this time of year and there are warning signs posted at the beginning. Personally I won't even use it in the summer.

I do not know if it is true or not, but I heard that they got the directions from a GPS program. That should remind all of us to continue to ask someone else if they have ever taken a certain road and to check the elevations and driving conditions before traveling in that direction. The sad part is it would have been much faster for them to go to the coast from Roseburg, where they stopped earlier, and just go south on 101 avoiding all the snow and other dangerous conditions.

That is sad, I was hoping they would find him alive.

You are right about traveling unknown roads in treacherous areas. I spend a lot of time in the mountains, but I research the roads and trails pretty good beforehand, and I usually ask the locals.

Our prayers go out to the family.

Heard the announcement on the evening news. Too bad the results are what they are. It was a noble thing that he tried to do. I have to commend him for his effort. If he had not left the car they would not have seen his tracks from a helicopter that could trace back to the car to rescue the mother and two girls. So sad, sympathy to family.

Apparently they made a wrong turn. They were going to go the way that you said Nancy but got lost. It is such a sad thing.

What I can never figure out is why people don't turn around when the road gets bad enough that there is a chance of getting stuck? I have been over that road in the summer and it climbs very rapidly from the Grants Pass side. Should have had some clues when there wasn't any signs of traffic and the snow was getting deeper. Really a sad situation.
