F350 King Ranch???? - Montana Owners Club

Still goin' round and round with TV choice. I'd like to hear from those with any good info regarding the F350 PSD 4x4 drw King Ranch. What's the good, the bad and the ugly about it? (To be honest I never thought I'd be thinking of a Ford!!) Thanks!

I went to a Ford after being a Silverado man for many new company trucks, love it and it is a pulling monster.
Ford PSD has my vote. (Nothing wrong with Chevy's, or Dodges.)

I'll second Ozz's vote. I love my Ford. Also agree Chevy's and Dodge's are good.

Ford - Chevy - Dodge are all full black circles in Consumer Guide for trouble - so you can't go right, you might say

. Just go with the pretty one

I use Ford for my heavy work - the new ones are high tech tow machines, amazing trucks to drive for towing. I didn't get the King Ranch - but I would in the new 08 - awesome interior.

We have a 2005 F350 King Ranch. We love it. We have over 50,000 miles on it and are very happy with it's performance. We towed a 2005 3295RK from Idaho to Indiana last Sept. and my lead foot had no problem staying at posted speed limits plus 5 mph. I hope that once we retire I can train that foot to ease off a bit. What ever brand you choose get a pyrometer installed. Any of the big three brands have the power to cook the turbo on long up hill pulls. You need to be able to monitor your EGT (exhaust gas temp.) to stay inside safe operating ranges.

I have owned chevys all my life, i bought an F250 PSD in 2000. I am well pleased with the PSD. I really beleve it would pull anything at any speed you want to go. when i wear this one out i might try a duramax, I have 43000 miles on the PSD so it may be a while.

Brad is right "Go with the prettiest truck, love my Ford 350 and it is a puller, customized by Kustom Kreations in Ala, with custom interior, all leather, wood grain

I really like the saddle leather on the King Ranch, but thats about it. All comes down to personal likes and dislikes, all 3 brands make good trucks. Just different strokes for different folks.

We have an 06 F350 Dually e/w towboss, King Ranch. We just hit 10k on miles so it is no where broke in. We have the 6.0 and so far no problems. Our 5th wheel weighs in at about 16,800 lbs on the Cat Scale. We wanted the extra margin of 26K GVCWR just to stay legal. The 4.10 rear end would done us fine but Ford only states 23.5k lbs on GCVWR. We get about 15 mph solo and 11 towing.
As far as King Ranch goes, we like the upgraded leather and the western theme. The truck rides like a dream. We had a 2003 F250 6.0 and had very good luck with it . We turned it in at 87K miles. No problems with that one either.
This 06 F350 is a pulling monster. We don't even feel the 5ver on the back when towing. The whole set up is very stable. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you in your decision

You have my vote.

I have been a Chevy man since I was knee high to a grasshopper.
I was a Fleet mechanic for a few years and I learned then that Ford is a better WORK truck vs. Chevy.
The front ends held up a lot longer than the Chevys did. I do believe that if I wanted a truck just for driving around town the Chevy is a lot smoother ride, more comfortable. This is strictly my Opinion.

BUT !!!!! out of my last two chevy's I owned.... I went through 3 transmissions. So I turned against'em

I have NO complaints with my F350

My last vehicle was a Ford. It never broke down but it did require a lot of alignment. I bought the truck brand new and put 80,000 miles on it in 2 years. I never had a problem other than alignment. My current tow vehicle is a Chevy. I used to be a Chevy man and had lots of transmission problems. I switched to Ford and had none. I switched back to Chevy and now I have them again. My next tow vehicle will be a Ford. I know nothing about Dodge...my dad would throw a fit.

After 3 GMC 1-tons, all Diesel of course, last year made the change to the F350 King Ranch (SRW). Been flawless for the first year. Just shy of 25K, about 23K of that pulling the 5th. Love the King Ranch.

What I liked better about the GM products (newer ones)
- On-Star, Stereo System
- Lower step in cab, lower step up tailgate for loading/unloading
- Slightly softer ride,
- Duramax/Allison combo was was a great setup

What I like better about the Ford,
- King Ranch colors match Monty

- Integrated Brake Controller and AUX swiches
- Taller and seems to handle the tall Monty better in crosswinds (may be other factors)
- Must say, I really like Ford Diesel/Trans as much as the GM, but didn't think I would

Love both trucks. Since we use it almost exclusively for towing, I give the F350 a slight advantage. If I have to buy another one today, I would make the same choice, 350 King Ranch. If I also used the truck as a daily driver, I think I may have stuck with GM. They just seem more civilized, personal opinion.

No experience with Dodge, simply because we do not have a local dealer, where as within 10 miles we have a GMC dealer and a Ford truck dealer. Excellent service by both, although not much to base that on beyond the basic maintenance items, thank goodness...

After 50k miles the KR leather will still look like new. The other leather will start to crack and fall apart. My last 2 trucks were King Ranch's and I cleaned them with warm water and conditioned the leather and it looks new the day I traded them in.

I have never had a Duramax or a Cummings, so for me to bash them and say ford is the best would have no real merit to base it on. But I can say I am truly happy with the way the PSD pulls our Monty around and have not regretted getting the dually as of yet. But winter is coming.

Doesn't really make any difference...all three will do the job. Get the one you like with the best deal. I certainly like my D/A combo.

They're all good trucks but at 70k on my Ford I'm still convinced it can't be beat for towing our Montana. Other brand owners would, of course, disagree with that. What that means is they all do the job.

Ours is not a KR but that's what I would go for next time. I love this lariat's leather but that KR leather is gorgeous. Ron, at 70k miles on this 2005 our leather still looks like new. Maybe it's an age thing and a care thing rather than mileage.

By the way, the new frontend on the 2005 and later 4x4's is truly outstanding and extremely strong. It also turns in far shorter distance than the others. But it's only on the 4x4's, so keep that in mind.

I was reading on another site that the '08 King Ranch's are going to a different type of leather. Still from the King Ranch in Texas, just has a little more shine to it and not quite as soft. I haven't seen any of it so I am only going off what was said in another site. I think the King Ranch leather is what makes people buy these trucks. Hopefully Ford don't mess it up.
