Black Tank Flusher.

I have a 2011 Montana High Country 5vr. Lately, it appeared that while flushing and watching the flow through the clear 45 degree adapter I have, there wasn't much flow. I did some research and found where the flushing sprayer enters the tank. I pulled the belly down on the front right hand corner and it was right there. I disconnect the pipe off the sprayer head and using 125PSI of air, I tried blowing anything out of the holes in the nozzle. Hooked the pipe back up and it was worst than before. Now I had to remove the sprayer nozzle from the tank. What I found was that all the holes except 3 were plugged up solid and the three which were not totally plugged, 75% of the hole opening was plugged. What had happened, I must have gotten into some bad water. I remember last year there was a water main pipe, in the CG we're in, that broke. The system was down for about 6 hours. Never thought much about it until now. I didn't have a screen at the hole inlet and apparently the pipe was probably full of sediment and that's what plugged up my flusher. I have a screen there now. What a difference it made. Now I can hear the water spraying and hitting all the walls of the tank. I would highly recommend everyone install a screen to prevent issues like I had.

That's why I have a dual water filter set up before the water even enters our rig.

I use a filter but not on the hose flushing the black tank. I do have a screen on that bib. Jim

That is all you need is a screen. Running through a filter system is over kill to flush a tank

I agree. I also have a filter but I would think that a filter would restrict the flow of water a little decreasing the effectiveness of the flusher nozzle. I use a short hose used only for flushing.

I agree with all of the above plus I also use a dedicated pressure regulator to prevent damage to the system if pressure too high at source.

I also have a valtera pressure regulator for the fresh water system. The black tank flusher is rated to take up to 125 PSI pressure. I don't see any need to use a regulator in that system. I would want as much pressure as possible to get a good flush/rinse.

I like using the washers with built in screens to catch any big stuff, but now I use quick connects wherever I can and must remember to take things apart occasionally to clean the screens. It's not unusual for debris to be captured at these campground water sources. The good news it that the screens and filters catch stuff, but it also increases maintenance to ensure the water can keep flowing.

I do appreciate my black water flusher and don't seem to have water flow problems with it even after 10 years of using it.

Possibly the reason why so many have a problem with the back-flow prevention valves on their units leaking? After almost 6 years full timing ours has never leaked.
