Strictly for looks!
The frosted glass in the front door never did serve a function, other than allowing light in, so while in Algodones, Mexico a few years ago, we purchased a (stained glass but clear) window, which my husband installed easily. We can now see who is on the other side of the door without opening it, and have a beautiful prism effect shining thru the glass. Its alot more durable than it looks also. I have priced this same glass in RV shows and was amazed they wanted anywhere from $150 to $200 for it, I found it in Mexico for $40....Horrah!!

I was just in Home Depot the other day and they have a film you can put on glass to give a stained glass look with lots of choices, which I believe would be easier to do than replacing the glass itself. I am going to look into it.

We have the film from Home Depot and it looks good, but as far as it being easier, I'm not so sure about that. If I remember correctly, I think (and that's where I usually go wrong) the dimpled/textured side of the glass is on the inside, so you have to take it out anyway and turn the glass around to keep the film on the inside. After taking the glass out, which was a minor job, I'm thinking it would be a lot easier to put the film on then before I put it back in the door. Well I was almost right, the film did go on easy, but when I tighten the trim to compress the glass in place it would squeeze the film and cause an air bubble. So, after taking the glass in and out several times to trim the film to fit, the job came out perfect. Would I do it again, yes, but only if I couldn't find a piece of stained glass.

Good to have the information though I am sorry you had so much trouble! I am not sure I am going to do anything to the door at this point.

i made a stainglass window for our last winter and it has light that come in it in different colors that is really nice and also some clear in places to let us see out it also. if you are in a campground that offters stainglass classes as we did in az last winter i would sujest trying it cost about 50 to make and aver 300 to buy.

The stained glass sounds BEAUTIFUL....and very personal. Nice turning your estate on wheels into YOURS. Great idea.

Hi,
we put humming bird decals on the inside that are some what transparent, that is with the frosting you cannot see them from the inside except as color blobs, but from the outside they look like little humming birds and flowers ...
though the glass sound interesting too...
just my 2 cents
