Glass replacement

I broke one of the frameless windows at the rear of my fiver. Dealer seemed mystified and seems to want me to buy the whole window unit. Has anyone had just the glass replaced at a glass shop? I'm going to call Binswanger tomorrow to see if they do that. It looks like if you could get the right class, that it just glues (tapes?) to a couple of metal strips, one for the hinge and the other for the tilt-out mechanism.

BrightonBob, what year and model do you have? Was it an escape window? You might, if still under warranty, try contacting Keystone to open a ticket.

Just had a frameless window replaced in ours in August. Local glass shops would not touch. Don't know why your dealer was mystified, but he is right about the whole window unit. Our dealer ordered a new frame complete with screens, took two weeks to get. Dealer made an effort to order only the window section (escape window) but no go. At least now I have a spare escape window latch, since folks have been having them break.

I have had a non emergency window on order for 6 weeks for my HC 375 FL. It was ordered with priority 2. Have you tried automotive glass shops?

We have the Kiro/Lippert Frame Less windows and have had two replaced, one as a result of a Boo Boo, and one lost the seal between the panes. Both times the complete window was replaced.

It's not the escape window, it's the other small one. I didn't get much joy at glass shops and wrote to Kinro today. Not much hope, though. Does anyone remember what replacement for whole unit cost? Insurance is out of the question. I'm out of warranty and I broke it myself, so time to pony up.

3910FB, Door side, rear, back window on slide out. $465.68. $290.25 labor. Right off the invoice. Took two weeks to get the window.

Good new! Due to the excellent work of Dianna Kern at Lippert/Kinro, I have a "Sash Assembly" on order and they have promised 5 to 7 day shipment. My local RV repair guy says that we should be able to install with little trouble, as he has done it before. Cost me $225.75 including freight and sales tax. I had to send pictures and do quite a bit of leg work to assure that I got the proper unit, but I think that it is going to turn out well. It was a freak accident, but coming out for a couple of hundred makes me very happy. Hope I can get on the road soon.

Just to keep this thread updated, I received the replacement window. It was shipped UPS and delivery was prompt, and it was packed like it was full of Tiffany glassware. Unfortunately the size of the unit was incorrect. I emailed Dianna and within 2 days I received an email from the Parts Department at Lippert/Kinro stating that they were remaking the glass and would ship it out as soon as it was ready.I am impressed with their handling of this situation and hope my experience will be helpful to others who have a window problem.

Due to a bunch of stuff, I just got around to installing the glass. It was a two-man job, but we got it in and it looks great. Unfortunately, I have no good solution to the broken ladder. The price of the ladder is reasonable, but the freight is more than the cost of the ladder. Total is over $500. If I could find something that is the right size (.875") that I could get bent into a "U" shape, I could repair it, but I haven't been able to find anything. 3/4" copper pipe is the right size, but no one around here can bend it.

Yes. They don't seem to have what I need either. Thanks, anyway.

I think they may have something I can use after all. I'm going to call them Monday. Thanks again.

I repaired my ladder. It broke at the junction where the bottom u shaped piece is joined. Guess someone backed into it. I went to a metal shop and got a piece of thicker walled smaller diameter aluminum tubing and removed the lower steps and u piece and after trimming about 4 inches off the length of the ladder I inserted the tubing in and reassembled. Took a bit of drilling and screw replacement but did not have to replace the ladder.
