Pedestal and hard wire surge protectors

Does anyone have any thoughts about using both a pedestal and hard wired surge protector together?

Don't see a problem re technical. However if the portable device shuts down at the pedestal, no current to the hard wire device. If pedestal glitch cooks the portable device and you go directly from the pedestal to the hard wire device, it will likely fail as well. Redundant systems are nice to have but you have to pay for them. For me, too many other potential issue headaches to deal with and our Progressive has been reliable for many years..

I had a male plug on my shore line short to ground, as there is another way to short:-), and fried my converter while it was attached to a portable surge protector, hence I purchased a new converter and a Progressive EMS hard wired surge protector. The portable surge protector did nothing to prevent the converter from failing as it was "up stream" from the fault. My other concern is an overload from the pedestal power which might cause the shore line to melt and fuse to the camper connection, happened to a friend a couple years ago. The portable surge protector survived the ordeal with no damage what so ever, and was in the deal when I bought the camper. My wife says I'm anal!
