Thetford Toilet
Our brand new 2015 Montana 3611RL Legacy will not hold water in the toilet. Talked to the dealer this morning and he recommended me bringing it in for him to look at. Trying to see if there is an adjustment on the pedal and spring that will allow the ball to close more.

Try putting a few drops of blue Dawn on the ball

my new 2015 did thee same thing 2 days after I bought it and what works on those toilets is getting some plumbers grease from the hardware store and smear it on the ball and the gasket every week or so like I did and then you get tired off that and get a Dometic toilet

Unfortunately that's the truth.

Our new 2015 3611RL Legacy is doing the same thing. We'll try the Dawn. We've already tried holding the lever down and then letting it go and that didn't work.

I lift mine with my foot after flush and it usually holds water. Hopefully I'll stop being cheap and buy a Dometic before it starts leaking like others on the forum.

Try this. After letting the ball close all the way put your foot back on the pedal ever so slightly and let some water fill part of the bowl. If you barely push down it will generally keep the ball closed but allow water to fill the bowl. After you get a couple inches of water in the bowl let up on the pedal. It should hold water better. If not then you need to grease the seal and/or clean it.

Ours doesn't hold water unless one lets the pedal go up on it's own (sort of slams). Since I'd rather not have any in the bowl while traveling, that's not a bad thing. These aren't like residential toilets as there's no trap that the water seals.

Our pedal does not allow you to just run water in the toilet other than flushing. I greased the ball and seal last night and no luck with holding water. I removed the toilet and am taking it to the dealer in a few minutes.

It appears that the ball was not installed straight in the toilet. It is full of water waiting to see if it leaks out.

Well I picked the toilet up at the dealer yesterday afternoon that had held water all day. When I got home I flushed it several times and put 2 cups of water in it and in about 45 minutes it had leaked out. Hummmmmm!

Just no way of getting around that they have a defect and they just keep producing them.

Well the dealer just called me and said that Thetford would not warranty the Toilet that will not hold water. They said that we had owned the Montana 2 months and are just now reporting it. Well we did not use it for 6 weeks and the dealer has been working with Thetford for 2 weeks now. I called Thetford myself and a Supervisor will not talk to me or call me back.

All too true with too many companies to too many customers...just say "glad that puppy didn't flood my trailer" and do as many of us have done by replacing it. One could use an orange home depot five gallon bucket with toilet seat...holds water...but you have to use saran wrap to keep smell at bay. John

After talking to Thetford on Friday I received a call on Monday that they were sending me a new base for the Toilet. The guy said that would fix the problem of not holding water in the bowl. I will put the new base on when it arrives. I went to Camping World yesterday and bought a Dometic 310 Toilet and it works great!

I have the same crap toilet (No pun intended) but I ended up putting Hot water Just this side of boiling in the bowl then let it sit. then drained the bowl and applied plumbers grease. I had to do this a couple of times and now it has been 6 months and the toilet has been holding water.
