A member's passing ...
We learned this morning that our dear friend, Norm Kwist (nkwist, MOC #821), passed away last Friday night. Chris, his lovely bride of only five years, emailed us to let us know. Norm didn't post much, but he was a long-time MOC member and an all-around nice guy and always willing to help a friend. For those of you who have seen our screen door opener (we call it the "Norm Kwist Special"), Norm "invented" that handy-dandy device and showed Steve how to install it on our Montana shortly after we met him and Chris.
We will miss him.

I don't believe we ever met, but we know that Steve and Vicki thought highly of the gentlemen. We too have his door opener. That is really quite a memorial, since it is used many times every day, it will keep his memory alive. Our sympathy to his family and friends.

Our sincerest condolences to Norm's family and friends and to all the MOCers he met. There's sadness in the MOC when reading of this type of post because while I did not meet him, there's a kinship that is felt with others who share common thoughts and experiences in a discrete club like the MOC and any loss can be quite profound.

I think our loss of our friend, Norm, has hit me harder than I ever thought it could. Norm was one of those guys who are just plain likeable. He and Chris were avid golfers. Their travels often consisted of looking for a good golf course, finding a nearby rv park, then golfing and sightseeing from that base.
We first met Norm and Chris when they pulled into the site next to us in Mountain Meadow RV Park in Hungry Horse, MT., near Glacier NP. I believe they were there for a week or so. When we left Hungry Horse, we went next to Red Rock RV Park, Island Park, ID, near Yellowstone NP. In a week or so, who pulled into the site next to us but Norm and Chris! On one of our trips to Tybee Island we detoured into Florida to visit Steve and Betty (SteveS) and to stop in Destin to visit Norm and Chris. Norm and Chris traveled in warmer weather and wintered in their condo in Destin. Chris and Norm fixed us a fabulous meal. They both enjoyed cooking.
Norm was a fighter pilot in Vietnam and a retired Eastern Airlines pilot. He appeared in very good health last time we saw him. We understand the discovery of terminal cancer was just a couple of weeks before his passing.
For those who perhaps met Norm...
