propane regualor

Hello every one
I have a question regarding the propane regulator ,when it is cold outside and you have both propane bottles open. We have a lever on top that you can select which bottle you want to use but I thought this regulator was a auto change over. My real question is when one bottle is empty, will it change over to the other bottle automatically? thanks for your help it's cold outside tonight

If you have both tank valves open, it is supposed to switch to the other tank automatically. For some reason mine will not do that. I like to leave one valve closed anyway. That way I know for sure that one is empty and one is full instead of discovering both are empty in the middle of the night.

We have full timed for six years, have never kept one or the other tank closed, and the auto changeover valve always switches to the full tank when the other runs out. The lever will not move on it's own, but the red/green indicator will switch from green to red, telling you that the tank it's pointing at is empty, and when you manually move the lever the other way, the indicator will turn green, telling you that the tank it is now pointing at is full. We have never had to get up in the middle of a cold night to switch tanks, and don't understand why anyone would want to do that, when these things work so well. Once you move the lever to the good tank, you close the valve on the empty tank, disconnect the hose, and remove the tank to get it filled. Once filled, put it back in, connect the hose, and then, SLOWLY open the valve until all the way open. You are now good to go until the other tank gets empty. In colder weather, I usually check the tank indicator every day or every other day, and you will get used to how long a tank will last, and have never run out of the second tank.

Same for us. Full timing for 8 years and when we have the propane on (don't travel with it on) both the 2010 rig and the 2017 rig have switched automatically.

Ditto with DQDick & rohrmann! You need to have both tanks on for the auto switch over to work properly. We have never run out of gas.

I would say your switch over valve is bad.

I think my auto switch must be bad , since when one tank runs dry the water heater (running on propane acts strange and I can smell propane) when it tries to light. It actually sets off the propane detector.
