Picked up our 2980 Saturday
Hello all. Just joined the ranks of Montana owners yesterday. Been RV'ing for years, most recently with a 34 foot Southwind prior to our new baby. Spent yesterday evening and today going through the new rig. We sure like it.
We've admired the Montana ever since our friends got one several years ago. Decided that, seeing as though I have a diesel pickup anyway, we might as well eliminate one drive train and get the slide outs we've been living without.
As far as personal information goes my wife and I are retired and are now full time grandparents. We have been spending winters in the Florida panhandle for the past several years. Last winter we started volunteering at a Florida State Park. The volunteer work has been very satisfying. We are very much looking forward to taking the new rig down for a few months this winter.
I'm sure I'll have some questions as time goes on. While we are somewhat seasoned RV'ers, 5th wheels are a new experience to us both.
I look forward to jawing with some of you.

Congratulations. I hope you enjoy your new rig. This is a great place to find out about the details of your Montana. If you have a question and or a problem post it here and you'll probably get an answer.

Glad to hear you are amongst us Montana folk. Heck, I just picked mine up Saturday. The old timers and experienced 5ers would have busted a gut laughing at my attempt to put the Montana monster into my driveway (it ain't pull through). Crunched my mail box and ended up three feet over in the grass and flowers. Trying to figure out my wife's confusing hand signals was a real hoot. Tempers never flared though so I guess we passed our first fulltimmers relationship test.

If there isn't anything left of Florida, I understand that Georgia has parks that need hosts or if you want to go west, you can try Arizona or California although the west fills up quickly.

Thanks all for the warm welcome.
I guess some of Florida is left. The park we stay at sustained some damage, but not too bad. I usually do construction type work for them so I'll no doubt manage to stay busy. What the hey, makes me feel needed.

It was great to read your e-mail as we can easily relate to the problems you experienced will backing up the monster. We have a Montana 3650 and have experienced a few interesting experiences, but it seems that it is always my fault .... as my hand signals confuse my husband. When I am sleeping I have this great dream that I am backing up the monster and that my husband is giving me all the hand signals (which I am sure will be very confusing also) and also running from the back to the front of the 5 wheel to tell me what the problem is .... is is only a dream but one day I will do it.

Wileecoyote985, congratulations and welcome aboard! The 2980 is a beaut, I can sure understand why you like that model. We used to have a 2880, the predecessor to yours and similar floorplan, and loved it. Hope it gives you many fine memories.
Stiles Watson, I do have to chuckle at your comments but if you see me smiling at that it's probably in remembrance of the many screwups I have managed on my own! And still do..

The answer to those confusing hand signals is some Walkie Talkies. We use ours when we need to pull or back in. Then I don't get yelled at plus you don't entertain the whole campground!

I agree with the walkie talkies. It sure does make communication easier and probably saves a few marriages. We also use them in malls and in walmart when I go wandering to the guy areas while Vicki does her thing.
