2015 Gross Weight Increase to 16,500+ - Montana Owners Club

In review of specs for several Montana models, Keystone has increased the gross weight by 500#. Like hear from folks who have a 2015 regarding the placard on the outside regarding axles. Tires remain the same E load rating per specs.

If the rig has 7,000 lb rated axles, then two axles will support 14,000. This means the remaining 2,500 lbs is on the pin or the landing gear if the rig is loaded correctly. Hopefully one has a suitable TV with plenty of margin for its GVWR, CGVWR and RAWR.

I don't pay much attention to the alphabetic load rating, for example, in this case, "E". I rely on the sidewall rating numbers and in this case the rig's wheels better support over 3,500 lbs each and with the proper wheels to support the necessary inflation to achieve that. And for the TV don't expect a 3/4 or 1 ton SRW of any brand to properly support that Montana.

I know with my SRW Ford, I am out of the new Montana market and I have no plans for a new TV. I do like that the new TVs are gaining capability to be able to tow these behemoths. Then there's the driver's license changes I'm trying to avoid going over 15,000 lb gross trailer weight ratings. At least, this is true in California. With my current license, I needed an "endorsement" for my current towable and I don't want more than that.

Looks like you will have to be careful in loading these new heavy Montanas as to not go over you GVW rating. You will also need a dually or 450 to tow them.

My 2007.5 dually is not up to the task of these newer Montanas. I haven't looked in awhile, but I'm pretty sure the 5th wheel towing max is 16k. But, I guess by now, 3/4 tons are in that range. By the way things keep going up, up, up, my truck is outdated.

You can get two of my TV's for the price of a new dually and I guarantee that you will not worry about weight, comfort, or stopping power again.

Now, there is something to consider. Seriously, I have a small car that I commute with. Keeping a big rig around for the heavy lifting certainly would eliminate common towing concerns.......

Yeah CaptianJoe BUT we are fulltimers and no freak'in way would my wife drive that thing ANYWHERE and you give up having a pickup to haul things around when not using it to haul around the 5er it is bad enough for my wife to go thru a drive thru with my Dually little alone that behemoth

,as a former truck driver if it was just me you are dang right that is what I would own NO BRAINER

My 2015 3735MK has a GVWR of #16640 and axle is 7K per the placard on the side and it came with Trailer King ST E tires and it did not come home with those lame tires on this big rig so I had them transfer my Geostar LT G574's off my old 3402RL on to the new one NOW I'm good to go BUT I am MAXED out (a little over)

for my 2003 dually but Ole "Black Bart" can handle it

@Don. $26K and already converted. It is manual; however, clutch only needed when starting and stopping. Float shifting the rest of the time. Same width as a dually's rear; however, just a little taller. 9.2 MPG with two 150 gallon tanks.

OK Joe, where to find to find one of those, already converted, got a web site that lists those?

What miles are on yours? Engine?

So $26K for the truck and about the same to fill it up?
