monty swerveing all over the road

1st trip of the year. On our way to Ithaca ny. 55 mph, ok 60 mph monty feels funny. At 65 monty swerving all over. scary yes!
Okay have Gl /14 tires 110 lbs each. Truck tires g rated 80 lbs each all good. only thing different this year is Brand new back tires 0n TV real good tires on front. (Ford F350 S.B) (model 3455SA Monty 2011)

Made it to camp ground, spent all morning tighting everything in sight.U bolts springs , anything with a nut. Nothing real loose but did put a couple turns on axle u bolts. But nothing looks bad. Any and all thoughts appreciated. Thanks MOC Gang.

Is your truck and trailer riding level. Are you way nose high on truck?Are you loaded extra heavy on your trailer on the rear axle? Something isn't right. I'm sure you will get a lot of help from the membership on this. Years of experience on all matters on this forum. Good luck.

I had a set of tires put on the rear of my dually once when the tech filled them to 80 psi. It was really squirrley going down the road. I lowered the pressure to 60 per sticker on door sill ... drove straight and true. Were you driving with a lot of side wind?

Im riding as level as always .I do have a Kayak rack on the back with 2 kayaks and a bike, but have had this same set up for over a year and many miles. Never a problem before. The only change i've made is tires. I bought to brand new ones for the back, and put the ole back ones on the front( there in very good shape) there all the same brand and thread and size. I'm at a loss. I have i have 4 days to fix this before i have to leave to go home. HELP!!

Check your lug nuts on the truck....check your shocks....is the hitch head mounted to the base properly - Just some additional thoughts

Rule out the new tires, rotate the new to the front.

The more I think about this I think it's your air pressure. I don't think factory specs call for 80 PSI in your front tires. Check out the recommended PSI and adjust accordingly.

I put 80 in all six of my TVs tires and have never had anything remotely close to this happening. I'd think the TV would have to be rocking (or doing SOMETHING) strange to cause a 5er to swerve back and forth. Unless there's something wrong with your hitch, IMHO look more at your Monty.

I am assuming this is not the first time ever you have used the truck and Montana. If the combo was fine last year (and before), then it should still be fine. The changed item is the rear tires. Fords come with E range tires. You say you have G range tires. Is that the new ones on the rear? Swapping the front and rear tires would be my first step.

I remember member 8.1Al (Charlie) put new tires on his TV that had very soft sidewalls. The truck was basically uncontrollable similar to yours. He replaced them with another brand (I don't recall the details but maybe he will) and normal stability returned.

If the only change was the tires, then start diagnosing there. It is unlikely any other componentry is to blame until you eliminate the tires as the problem.

Several years ago while in Albuquerque I had Discount Tire install a new set of Michelin's on our truck. The result was a scary, weaving ride. When we got to Las Vegas I made Discount swap them for a set of Goodrich Commercial AT's and everything was fine. I don't know what the problem was with those Michelins as I now have a set of them on the truck and they are fine. As others have suggested,if the new rear tires are the only thing different then they must be the culprit

I agree with the new tires probably being the problem. How does it ride without the Montana hitched up?

Have you checked the axle alignment on the trailer? Do you have equal distance between the tires on both sides?

OK. heres the scoop. I have mor/ride supension. In that supenision system theres these rubber blocks they call springs its right between the front and back tires on each side you have to get underneath the trailer and look up inside and you'll will see these rubber blocks, well mine are all dry rotted and cracked and the whole angle on the springs is out of wack.So Ching Ching $$ i call mor/ryde and left a massage i guess holiday weekend everybody off. Some dry rot and cracking is normal (check the manual for more info) for the rubber springs. That said, several people have had them fail, myself included. You my need to look at a few other things to be sure the spring has actually failed. On mine the bolts that attach to the shackles on one side were hitting on the tower, and the other side was not even close to hitting. I also had a serious list to one side. Morride was great to work with in my case. My best advice is to take pictures of the springs and email them to Morride. Find the contact info on their web site. Good luck..

The cracks you see are normal I send a picture to mor/ryde 3 times now and they say this is normal.

Some times tire tread and steel belts separate and cause sway.
Tire still looks good but belts are separated. Check if you find nothing else.

I took pics and sent them to Mor /Ryde to a wonderful guy named Gary Wheeler. Said yep there real bad and that should'nT of happened. He also said warranty has expired. BOOOO. And then he said $129.00 per set and to install the heavy model ones. BOOO again. BUT... Then he said were gonna send you a free set!! Because he never seen them crack like this before. So it cost me $12 dollars shipping .YEAAA!!! So i am now in the process of finding someone to replace them. I'm thinking i can do it myself with the right equipment. ( jacks and stands and stuff ) it looks like 8 nuts and bolts is all that's holding them on. Any Volunteers out there ??

You might try to see if you have a trailer repair shop near you as they would have all the equipment for a safe install.
