Now we understand why full-timers go south for the winter! Stiff water hoses, cold noses and fingers are no fun when breaking camp at 26 degrees. Since we are still working, we will remain part-timers for awhile longer and keep the Monty parked until early spring!

There is a heated water hose available. Usually, if we suspect freeze, we put our hoses away before freezing and fill our tank. You can also allow a spigot , maybe kichen, to just barely run and the hose will not freeze. This only works for short periods.

This is why the Montana is tucked away under its' cover 'til spring.

You forgot to mention trying to coil up the shore cable when it's that cord. I had to go full time because I'm not strong enough to handle a frozen power cord anymore.

Onekla - I wholeheartedly agree, which is why I live in the South year round, but I must admit I enjoy winter camping at times as well. The hassles you mention are worth it when you wake up, as we did this month in the Blue Ridge Mountains, to this:

We were in a beautiful state park with only 3 other campers in the entire place - no neighbors right out our door. Of course, I wasn't quite as enthralled when I was grilling our dinner and it was 30 degrees outside! We camp year round (3 days to 2 week trips) and this is only the 4th time we've been snowed on in the past 10 years.

Luckily we didn't have any frozen hoses, but hoses and power cords sure are a handful to coil up when they're cold! Butch & Sharon, I'll bet that the snow was a surprise - very pretty! That's when I would crank up the fireplace and snuggle up in a blanket. It's those "out of the norm" things that make trips most memorable.

Yep we Love staying up North in the winter, we are BIZARRO Snowbirds ,right now we are backed up to the Pacific Ocean in Wa State with only 2 other rigs here AHHHHHH..... SERINITY NOW, SERINITY NOW

BigSkyJimmy - here I thought we were the only crazy ones! To be honest, give me a warm beach any day, but those occasional forays into the cold temps - especially late fall and early winter can be great. Kathy and Brian - we actually left one park a day EARLY to get to the snow before it fell. Partly for safety to not drive in it, but partly to do exactly what you said - hunker down and stay warm by the electric fire!

Yep don't get me wrong we love the nice weather,we were in Zion and Bryce where it was 100 degrees a few months ago ,but Man we Love the winter storms at the Ocean,and no you are not the only crazy one's but judging by the lack of folks in the Resort right now and 60MPH gusts and sideways rain here maybe we are a little WACKY

We revel in it because we love the change of seasons ,the same weather all the time is BORING !!! I gotta have some adventure in my life or life becomes same ole same ole

I grew up hearing everyone say the same thing "we just love the change of seasons, the same old weather is boring". After spending my adult life working in the wonderful changing seasons, which is everything from blizzards to 105 degree humid days, I will skip some of it thank you.

Yep I here ya if I spent my life with those extremes Blizzards,105 humid weather etc... I would want to go south too BUT in the NW it is not like that, Great summers not humid,Of course rain in the fall and winter with some snow then back to nice summers a good change of seasons for us

I always hated the extreme weather, cold or hot, but when working you just have to put up with it, snowshoeing up a mountain or drenched with sweat in summer. Now that I'm retired, let it snow or get to 110 degrees. As long as the A/C works in summer, and the propane tanks are full in winter, all is good.

Living in New England, the change of seasons is profound. But, I've learned to take the good with the bad. As I've gotten older, I've established routines that are now a part of the changes that come each season. Now I kind of roll with whatever comes and make sure I'm prepared as much as possible. At this point, I don't know any other way. I do enjoy the changes that each season brings. You prepare yourself when you live in this region. Everyone knows how to drive a lawn tractor, or use a snow-blower, and nobody buys 2 wheel drive pickups. It comes with the territory. And, it sure makes you appreciate camping season all the more when it rolls around. The Montana is put away, cleaned and covered for the next 5-6 months. Looking forward to pulling the cover and starting anew in the spring.

I've been on Union Pass Wy in September and woke up to what I thought was a blizzard and enjoyed it. Where we live in Virginia it rarely gets to 10 degrees and this summer never got past 90. I enjoy winter camping on a friends 12000 acre farm in South Carolina. It gets up in the 70s during the day and in the 40s at night. We hog hunt and enjoy the low land swamps. The seasons are nice but we really enjoy loading up in January and heading to Arizona for the winter. In April when the temps jump above 100 degrees we start the trek home to Northern California. We enjoy baseball and Spring Training in March. Life is good.

When we lived in the Upper peninsula of Michigan. we camped once in the winter it was good until we brought the camper home in the salt and when the spring hit the camper had corrosion every ware. The one time made a mess so we quit winter camping altogether and kept the SOB under the cover. but now my job moved us to Naples Florida and we now full time in our new 331RLT and love it. just sold the house up north YEA! and now NO MORE SALT.
