Ram transmission upgrade

I have a 2005 Ram Cumins diesel dually 3500. Does anyone know or have experience with upgrading the transmission. Upgrade the trans or get a new truck? Looking for advice, suggestions or recommendations.

What is wrong with your current transmission? What kind of upgrade are you looking for?

The 2005 Ram is a 4-speed trans. I'm wondering if I can upgrade to the newer 6 speed transmission.

The 6 speed 68RFE transmission is available on 2007.5 to current year trucks. So I doubt there is anything unless it's after market. I have the Aisin AS69RC transmission and I have to say I really like it. It adapts to your driving style and shifts very smooth.

I am in the process of replacing my transmission at this time. I am having a built 68rfe installed for a few bucks more than a stock unit. I am not sure of the options available for the manual. $75,000 for a new truck or $5,500 for a new transmission, transmission won.

If you like the truck, I'd look at transmission options. If the truck could also use some work, you'll love all the things available in a newer truck except the payments.

Way too much difference from 05 to 07.5, there nothing wrong with the 48RE trans, just requires service. If you want to upgrade to a built 48RE there are several company’s that.
