Battery/Box 305RL

My 17 305RL only has one battery. I’m think I would like to upgrade and and more capacity. Should multiple 6v or 12v be considered. Sources recommend for batteries and box?

Had solar on the old rig with six 6v AGM batteries. New rig has two 12v AGM batteries. With the sealed batteries there is no need for a box.

Just remember that golf cart batteries (6V) weigh a lot. I think they are 60-75 lb each. So that adds to your pin weight if you are close to your limit (or already over like many of us are!!).

I made my battery box out of plywood. I made a square box then cut a piece of plywood and set it on top then set my vent on top of lid and marked it leaving about 1 and a half inch around the edge. I then screwed the original plastic lid with vent on top of plywood. You can easily remove the lid when needed to service or remove battery. I also bought a strap to lift the batteries in and out of the box. My box holds 2 6 volt batteries. I bought 2 trojan batteries at Golf Carts Houston. They are located just south of Kingwood on the left side of 59 on loop 494.This was the cheapest place i could find Trojan 105 batteries. This shouldn't be to far from you if you live close to Livingston.

I made my dual battery box out of a plastic cooler that was a close fit for the size of batteries that I chose to use.

Used a hole saw to cut a hole in the bottom of the cooler for the bottom vent, used some PVC pipe to make a down spout that is sealed to the cooler and used some stainless steel screen to keep bugs and other critters out, then drilled a hole in the lid for the upper vent hose.

Bolted the cooler to the floor of the front compartment, rigged some all-thread for battery hold down made out of a piece of plywood, and routed the cables through drilled holes in the side of the cooler.

Works very well, seals tight, and was much cheaper than an "official" dual battery box.

if you are just going from one campground to another or home, one 12 volt will work fine.

it keeps the weight down in front.

but if you do get a second 12 volt battery, get 2 new ones since the weaker(older) battery will draw down the new battery. you can get a battery box from walmart.

Two 12 volt AGM's. Put them in a battery box but you don't need to-no venting needed, no wet cells. Love it.

All lead acid batteries, AGMs and gel cells, generate explosive gas. Even though most are sealed, makers stress that battery ventilation is vital still. Confusion exists over this. Around 2000, some battery makers began to claim that no ventilation was required. Or, ventilation, is advisable but not necessarily essential. They withdrew this advice, however, shortly after. Many batteries thus have a warning notice as below.
