Extension 50 Amp Power Cable

I've purchased the ends and I'm preparing to purchase the cable, but can't decide the length. I've only had one experience where the stock (35') barely reached. My thought was an additional 10 to 15 feet would suffice. That would still fit in the tote with the cords/adapters. Are there parks out there that would possibly require more than 50 feet of power cable?

We have 20 foot extension and only once have needed anywhere close to that 50+ lengthwhen we were given a very long site and were parked 'backwards' for some reason by the CG owner.

We've never used our extension, but we've come very close including where we are today and probably would have gotten it out if it was only 10'. The problem for us is whenever we are in a park built for motor homes and the pedestal is positioned in the front and we want to be more toward the back.

Have only used an extension one time and then 10' would have easily reached.

Thanks for the Replies

Right now, we're just camping in local area, but retiring this year and planning to broaden our range a bit. Your replies gave me an idea of what to possibly expect. Didn't want to show up at a campground short-handed. I've noticed some stores at campgrounds charge quite a bit for extension cords. I have a 35' now so a 15 to 20 foot cord should be sufficient. Thanks again.

I have a 25' extension and have used it twice. On one occasion we were in a parking spot backwards so our big rear window would fact the river we were on. The spot was designed for a motor home.

TLightning, assuming the cord that came with your rig was 30'+?. Were you using the entire length of the two cords, or could you have gotten by with, say a 15 foot extension? Our rig has a large window in front. I'm thinking if I was in a situation to park my rig in the opposite direction to gain a better view (like along the Oregon coast), perhaps I should consider making a longer cord.

To tell you the truth, I don't remember. My extension is 30'....yes it was expensive, but when you need it....you need it. Since you are making your own, better a bit longer than too short.

Just took 9,000 mile trip...lots of campgrounds. Bought 15 foot cord before we left. Absolutely needed it at one camp site, glad we had the cord. Wouldn't leave home without it.

We have a 3810MS which has the power cable right at the rear. We carry a 35ft. extension. Have never needed any more than that

On our 2008 3605rl the shore power plug is in the rear bumper. The inverter is in the front storage compartment. So if you plan on boondocking and want to secure your portable generator to the front leg so you don't have to listen to it while watching tv in the evening make sure you get enough wire to reach.
