With the Lippert can you also get an optional handrail?

I don't believe so - it wasn't available when I added ours. With the grab bar there, it's really not needed. Also. Stromberg-Carlson make an extended version for about 50 bucks that replaces the existing and IMO, looks and works better : https://www.strombergcarlson.com/rv-...-assist-rails/

Just updating for some of those that are contemplating the install. A member of another forum sent me a pic and asked did I think she had enough room in her storage building to deploy the steps, so I took some measurements last night.

With the factory folding steps down, they stick out around 33" form the side of the camper.

With the MorRyde 4 step system deployed, they stick out 38" from the side of the camper with the adjustable feet in the first extension hole.

This is where some of you may have a problem, but while raising/lowering the MorRyde 4 step system and the steps standing straight out to the side of the rig, with the feet in the first extension hole, they stick out 50" from the side of the rig.
Hope this helps in your decision.

Monty - as noted they will need at least 42-48+/- inches to swing past perpendicular to the trailer side and any wall. Four treads plus the ~8" rise at the top is actually 5 steps.

The MorRyde does have a handrail available. About $60. The crunch nut anchors are already installed on the steps. It is a 4 bolt install. Would probably take less than 5 minutes

If you get one, a piece of advice on the installation. There are 2 mounting bolts on each side but there are multiple rows of holes on the box and mounting brackets. Use bolt holes on the same row. If you stagger them (like I tried) it will twist the box and knock it out of square. The only real pain on the installation on mine was getting the old steps off (could not get to the back bolt real easily)

Is the angle of incline less with these steps? We have a couple of older dogs who really struggle with the factory steps..... narrow and steep ..... been thinking about the mor ryde

The angle of the incline is less and the steps are wider and much more solid.

I know this is the wave of the future for RV steps. I love the idea of having a solid platform to walk up or down. My hesitation to adding this mod is... how do you deal with the debris and water introduced to the interior of the RV when you close the steps, especially when its raining and you are parked on grass or dirt ?

Looks like the only point of contact to ground is the two extension feet. Put blocks under those and do a quick seeep of the steps if they have mud on them. Besides the way the steps are directly over the 5ers interior landing it shouldn’t any dirt will likely be contained there. Insignificant issue compared to busting your backside due to flimsy original steps!

Sweeping off the steps is a given. I’m talk about closing the steps in the rain. Water will be dripping off the steps into the interior of the RV. I guess just lay a couple of towels down before closing the steps. It seems that the majority of the time I’m breaking camp, it’s raining. Thunderclouds just follow me around. How do others handle this situation ?

No big problem
As I said above, a broom and a towel or two.

As far as water, I can count on my 10 fingers and probably have 6-8 unused how many times we have broken camp in a major rain over 45 years. You will not get any more water inside in a driving rain then you would with conventional steps.

Dirt - that happens regardless

Couple wet towels will be a small price to pay compared to the hospital bill when you fall on the original equipment. I think it is mandatory that it rain while you are packing up or if you leave your favorite chair out from under awning. In fact it will rain harder if you leave all your chairs out

Still contemplating the mod, maybe even with the grab handle. Love that storage box in place of the old steps. Seems like a perfect place for wheel chock and leveler pad storage.

How wide is your door frame and what width steps did you get? This is a definite add this year and just curious about the width. I like the Lippert steps because of the large 1-1/2 width top step. We have a 2015 HC 353 so I am thinking the door will be the same.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Hi Steve.
The HC 353 is the replacement for the HC343 we have from all I can see

I just measured the door as the side approach of ours is kinda buried in yesterday' foot of snow

It's an actual 31 inches, The steps you most likely need are Lippert part 678027. This is the etrailer link: https://www.etrailer.com/RV_and_Camp.../LC678027.html

etrailer last fall had the best price but it looks like it has gone up some since ---- but still worth the cost. Mine took 4-5 days to get here in Upstate NY from Missouri

If you look at the etrailer ad, the sides now are not a tubing assembly now but are a more solid single piece steel assembly. According to my installation instructions they are the Gen 2

One thing more that I did was to use their supplied screws for installation but replaced them (Home Depot) with at least a couple size heavier, the largest that would fit their screw slots. and a 1/2 in longer. For whatever reason, their screws when installed, just didn't 'feel' right. I assume you did see the photo where I reinforced that very thin door frame, using 1/8x3/4 steel. That door frame is very soft aluminum and it will, I found, bend easily.
