Need New All Metal Tire Valve Stems - Montana Owners Club

I have 2009 Monty with Tredit TR-6 Wheels. I want to install a metal tire valve on wheel. The valve stem is recessed into the rim. Regular metal valves stems will not fit into recessed areas. Also will be installing TST Tire monitoring system.

What are some examples and vendors you guys are using? I do not want the rubber/brass high pressure stem. OK Ozz here's your chance to make a sale.

I just had steel valve stems installed to support my new TST system, I have the Tredit TO-4 8 spoke wheels and one of the four had a smaller sized recess hole than the others. 3 used the type with the nut on the outside of the rim and the smaller one had the double nuts on the inside of the rim. According to Tredit there was a changeover on the rims and they now are all the larger sized hole. I as usual wound up with one oddball.

I will call the Tire shop tomorrow and find out the supplier, these were a perfect length for the TST sending unit. Will post the information tomorrow on the two used on my wheels.

I would either go to (contact) Tredit, or Mr. Lonnie, he can get anything tire and wheel related for us.

Two of the OEM stems on out 2013 3402 Big Sky failed within the first 6 months on our G6-14 Tires . Examination by a Good year dealer determined improper installation and dry rot.I saved them both for the fall rally and a explanation of how that could happen.

Randy those appear to be the same as the smaller one on the one rim on my unit. The other 3 rims had the nut on the outside. You should be able to get these and any decent sized truck tire dealer as they use steel valves on their high pressure wheels.

I will still try and get you part numbers when I go to town this morning. But think you have found the one, and if your rims are all the same then you would be good to go.

Update: Randy the tire dealer where mine were installed has selections from 3 catalog's so you should have no problem getting them, just make sure they have them in stock before you take the wheels in.

I installed a TST system on my 2014. The Tredit wheels came with a rubber/brass valve stem. I installed the 507RV system.

I called TST and sent them a picture of the rubber/brass valve stem. They said the stem would work fine with the 507RV sensors because of their light weight and solid metal stems were not needed.

I double tow a 6x10 trailer and had the metal/brass stems installed in the small trailer. I just returned from a 2,000 mile trip, with the 507 sensors on both the 5th wheel 4 tires and the 2 tires on the 6x10 and not a bit of trouble at speeds of about 70mph.

Jim I just installed the same 507 TST system but only on my Monty as we cannot tow double. Did you also install the repeater/transmitter or were you able to receive the signals from all 6 without it.

I did install the repeater and can sit in the S&B and monitor my tires a good 80 ft away. Have been doing that to record the pressure changes relating to ambient temperature changes. I put the steel stems on in preparation for buying "G" range tires.

Same here, I've run them a couple of years now with no problems.

Dick did I misunderstand or do you not have G614 tires, I thought all steel/metal valve stems were needed for the 110 psi on those tires. Seems everyone who has changed to those tires has also gone to steel stems. I did not change stems because of the TST, I changed in preparation of installing G rated 110 psi tires.

Am I wrong regarding the extra pressure requirement.

I'm confused. What dry rot occurs with steel stems. I have no rubber on my stems.

Is there a certain size metal stem for each size wheel? I'm going to purchase 614 tires and would like to preorder the stems so it's a one stop install. My guess is Petes road service where i'll get the tires from will not have them in stock. My wheels are the stock ones for the 2013 Monty.

David, this link http://www.tredittire.com/Default.aspx is the tire and rim company for Montana. Look thru the Product header of this site to Aluminum wheels to determine your rim. You could then call
Tredit at their Elkhart office listed on the site and ask them 1) does your rim accommodate 614's and 2) what size steel stems. If your new rig is a Big Sky Montana it should. Not sure about the regular Montana models though. Good Luck.

IRP trip guy,

I did not install a repeater. However at times the right tire on the 6x10 trailer will loose connection with the monitor. I usually stop when it is convenient and hold the monitor next to that tire. It will regain connection and is good for the rest of the day.

I have only had one trip with the TST monitors, am 100% happy with them. (2000 miles) I have towed the 6x10 trailer a bunch and the loss of contact with one tire on it is not a issue with me.

However, this winter, I am going to look into a repeater, but I doubt I will do it. I am going to take the battery out and test it before I do anything. It may be a low battery issue, and not a need a repeater issue.

Interesting topic, so do I take the information from Dennis that the Big Sky 614's come with steel valves already installed, or do I take the information from Rich that his Big Sky 614's came with some sort of rubber stems. Or can I imply that Montana and/or Tredit realized the errors of their ways and have now updated to steel valves? Inquiring minds need to know, provided that the OP has had his question answered? Hate hi-jacking a thread, but my curiosity has definitely been piqued!!
