Resurface magnate contact

I am planning on replacing the brakes on my 2995 rl in the spring, I know I should have the drum resurfaced for the pads. Should I also have the magnet contact surface reground? Also would a regular brake shop be able to do that?

Touching the drum really depends on age or damage to the drums. Mine looked good for the first three years and then parts not in their normal position lead to the magnet surface messed up. I think you might find there aren't many places that will do this work anymore. Brake shoes will seat into the old drum just fine. You can improve things greatly by ditching the drag stoppers and going to disc brakes.

I had the drums turned about six years ago, including the magnet armature surface. There were only two shops that could do this, one a trailer shop and the other a big machine shop. If the drums are bad enough, they can’t be turned. Then your only other option is new drums.
