Strange water leak

We have a water leak under our kitchen island sink and we have no idea where it’s coming from. There is periodically a puddle by the island and we have put towels around the pipes and within an hour they are soaked. Obviously water travels down but for the life of us we cannot see what’s leaking. Ugh. Anybody else have this issue?

If all the connections are tight, put some paper towels as high up as you can get and see if the drain itself needs more plumbers putty.

We have the Corian sinks and cheap plastic drain fittings were used, which eventually broke. I replaced them with metal drain fittings, easily available at any hardware store. We have also noticed that if we aren't careful, water will go down the faucet where the pull out faucet hose goes, leaving some water inside the cabinet below the sink.

Wow! That’s just was what I was about to do. Thank you for answering. Saved me A LOT of work. Strange that you can’t see the leak when it’s happening. My wife just checked and she thought she felt water around the hot water to faucet connection.

Definitely not the drain. Had that issue with our last FW.

Thanks for the tip! That’s what I thought it was at first but we tested and tested and that wasn’t the issue because it was happening when we weren’t using the water at all.

How did the techs take the island apart? We just discovered the same hot water line leak and would like to explore the damage under the island.

It looks like you just have to carefully pry the panels off.

We got the island apart enough to inspect under the base for water damage. Disassembly was quite easy (not sure that's a good thing). AV Tech is correct, we just pryed the little flat trim pieces around the perimeter up with a flat pry bar. They come up real easy (again, not sure that's good), and I wouldn't plan to reuse them as they are junk. I'm not sure of their purpose anyway. So then, by chance, I went to pull some of the brad nails out of the base with some pliers, and the whole damned board came up. Yes, easy, but not a good thing. The good news is, no visible heavy water damage. I will post some more pictures after I get a bit further into it. (sorry about the second pic as it is rotated 180, and can't seem to fix it)

Thanks for the detailed pics. How did you fix the leak? Can you tighten a Pex clamp?

Strange water leak

A good method to find slow leaks is to wipe all the fitting and tubing and cover them with Baby powder. Watch with flashlight and you should see where it is coming from. Flower would work also.

signature below.

I'd be very surprised if Keytone used anything other than 1/2" pex throughout their coaches.

I now know where it is. At the junction where the hot water supply attaches to the faucet. If I could tighten the clamp it might stop but I asked a plumber friend and didn’t recommend that. He suggested a shark bite.

Ours was leaking from the threaded part of the connection. We just needed to tighten it a bit. It wasn’t quite finger tight. I did disassemble both sides, added thread tape, and gave it a 1/4 turn past finger tight. Directly after, we checked the connections in the bathroom. The sink is good, but not sure on how to check the shower. I guess some searching on this wonderful forum is in order.

I hope your issue can be as simple as mine! Good luck!
