Can see the Milky Way from our back porch tonight. S. Mo. Directly overhead from south to north. Very cool.

Yes we looked at it last night, beautiful. The night sky is one of the reasons we love to camp on Union Pass Wy. Google it. It’s 9200 feet high along with the clear air the night sky is beautiful. So many people live in too much light pollution and never get to see the night sky.

Due to crazy growth, we have not been able to see the Milky Way from our house in 20 years. But I still get to see it on my annual trips to our hunting cabin in the Texas Hill Country. And it is amazing to see.

It’s all boondocking. Large even huge units can camp there. There are miles of road you can pull off and fields to camp in. All the big game species in Wyoming are up there. You can watch the elk, moose, antelope, deer, brown and black bear, every creek has trout in them along with all the lakes. I think it’s the prettiest place in Wyoming. The road from the Dubois side is a good gravel road. I wouldn’t try it from the pinedale side. Go in September any earlier there are billions of mosquitoes. Expect nights to be chilly, frost in the morning and warm sunny days in the seventies.
Look Union Pass up on Google. I love it.

Lots and Lots of grizzlies. Be bear aware and have your bear spray. I use to elk hunt this area. Terrace mountain right close by has some bad ones. Be careful and enjoy

My friend from Dubois and I were hiking up there. He had his dog with him. I ask what would happen if your dog run up on a grizzly. He smiled and said don’t worry he will bring the bear right back to us.

You might know him. He was an outfitter in Dubois, Dan Kinnerman. He usually hunted sheep.

Lynwood put me on to Union Pass a few years ago, as I go to Wy often. I don't think the Dubois route is too steep but if memory is right, a few hair pin corners. But the worst thing in my opinion is the wash board road. If you are familiar with them, under any type of load, your wheels start bouncing around and sort of sliding sideways a bit. Not too bad if you know what you are doing, but I really don't like washboard roads. I have never tried it while pulling, either. Just FYI.
Also, I went one year June 14 and the road right a the top had a 3-4 foot snowbank across it. People just went thru the field and went around it!
