Washer/Dryer

These questions probably have been asked before but these are my concerns,
pros and cons of a combination washer/dryer unit
vented or unvented, how much difference does it make
and finally the DW read somewhere that you can not bypass the wash cycle and just use the dryer cycles on a combination unit, is this true.
Thank you in advance.

We have a 9 yr old Splendide combo vented unit and the DW loves it. We are not full timers, so the somewhat small loads are not a problem. She just puts in a load, sets it to wash and dry, and we go off and do what we want and come back to a clean dry load. Newer models have a larger capacity I think.

And yes, you can set it to dry only.

Certainly can set our Spledide 2100xc to dry only. Ours is a vented model and it does take extra time to dry compared to a residential even with the smaller loads. I would not like to see the aftermath if someone tried to take it away from the DW.

I am much smarter than that!!!

I do the laundry in our family and wouldn't be without our Combo. Yes it does take longer to do the laundry, but I'm at home watching football or NASCAR or doing whatever so I like that situation much more than going to a park laundry where the person in front of you may have washed their dogs blankets

I have a ventless combo. I would highly recommend a vented unit. I think it takes about 5 hours per load.

My wife and I have been full timing for the last 15 months. We had the vented combo installed before we picked up the rig. Would not be without it. Takes some getting used to but is still better than going to a laundromat.

Get the vented version. The un-vented takes FOREVER to dry.

Yes you can dry only.

The above applies to a Splendede.

Been full-timing for 6 months and have the Splendid combo vented unit. First month DW hated it but now has figured out how to make it work for her and she loves it. Highly recommend the vented unit, small loads but turn it on and leave for the day, no problem.

Walter,

We have the Splendide combo vented unit. You can just dry if you want. As others said, small loads work fine. We are not full timers yet, but we sure like keeping up with the laundry and not having to pack as much for our trips.

I just redesigned my installation yesterday see first last page of MOC Post.

OK so I have noticed two things from everyone who has responded. 1) you all seem to have a vented dryer and 2) you all seem to have a combo washer/dryer unit. Why the combo unit? Is it to save space and weight?

A different point of view...

We do not fulltime. We average about 10 - 14 days a month for 7 months. We bring a sufficient amount of clothes to not have to worry about laundry.

Based on how we RV, it would take us 23 years of laundromat loads, one load a week, to equal the cost of an RV washer/dryer. Even doing one load a week, 52 weeks a year, it would take almost 6 1/2 years to equal the cost of an RV washer/dryer.

I can see the convenience of having one in the coach but I would rather save the weight, save the money and use the closet space for something else.

Again, a different perspective.

Because we only had space for a combo.

JABURKHOLDER, thanks for you reply/POV. The DW and I have thought of that and we currently use the resort laundromat. I am somewhat OCD, one of the reasons we got into RVing. I know who slept in my bed and I also like to know what was washed in the machines before me. I know it's weird. the other thing IS the cost of doing laundry at a laundromat. The cost at the laundry in the resort is $2.50/load wash and $2.50/load dry. Normally we do 3 loads a week that's $15.00x26 (6months), that's $390.00. At the current price it would pay for itself in about 4 years, if we purchased a combo unit and had it installed by the RV dealer. Thanks again for your POV a lot to think about.

We used to be like Jaburkholder, then we started using the rig a lot more and now we are fulltiming and using any laundromat is now the pits. Unfortunately we use the washer/dryer cabinet for additional storage so we use laundromats and they are mostly $3.00 per wash or dry. Hopefully we solve the storage problem (get rid of more stuff) and we can get the appliances, instead. There's also the cost of convenience and happiness to figure in.

We too have the Splendide combo vented unit and absolutely love it. We chose the combo unit because it took up a little less space in our closet. Yes, you can only do small loads and you have to make sure to open tank valves if you're doing a lot of laundry,(forgot that once and had water backed up in the shower and out on the floor) but that's a small price to pay for the convenience. You need to make sure to take your clothes out just a few minutes before they are totally dry and hang them up. Otherwise, they tend to wrinkle badly. It feels like a true luxury but I wouldn't be without it now!
