Haven't had any problems so far with the struts on my three compartment doors...as for the strut that was used to hold open the entrance door, it was replaced with a lower rated strut when the door bracket pulled off of the door. I have since through bolted the door mount fitting. On the king bed, it looked like a middle school student built the platform and attached the struts. I had to completely strip out what was in the monty and re-do it with quality plywood and used 100 lb struts to provide for enough lift power to hold up the platform when it was open and one where you had to push down to close it. So no danger of it falling on either one of us when it was in the up position. Sounds like you were the lucky recipient of the marginal struts. John
