Don't understand the question. What do you mean by configuration? Do you have one or more batteries in you rig?

From what I understand they come from the factory without them and it is up to the dealer to install the batteries. So what ever the dealer installs.

Every one of our Montana units came with a single battery.

If it has something other than a 12v deep cycle battery it was not original.

Greg and Cheryl(GLS3950) has it correct. The units come from the factory without a battery in them and the dealer you purchased it from puts in the battery or batteries. Some put in a single deep cell and others put in two of them. My particular dealer puts in two and I thank them for it.

X3. No battery when they arrive at the dealer. If you are a newby and don't ask for something different, you will probably get a single 12V battery. If you boondock at all, (2) 12v batteries is a minimum.

Thanks for the info. I think mine isn't even a deep cycle battery.
Have to add water every month.

The battery could be old. They typically last five years.

We have a 2013 Montana 3800RE ordered new. As part of purchase price we had THE DEALER install 2 deep cycle 6V batteries. This was a listed option when we ordered the rig. Our SOB also had 2 batteries.
Had our batteries checked in April 2016 and we are still fully charged.
We are full timers and are into our 11th year as snowbirds from Alberta going to Mesa, Arizona, in the winter. We love our Montana !

Happy trails to all.

Most deep cycle batteries you see do need water added. AGM batteries, in many cases, require a different charging setup.

When we purchased our brand new 2006 3500RL, the dealer installed two 12v deep cycle batteries. One battery died within 6 years, the other lasted 7 years. I then installed a spare 12V deep cycle that was newer when I was an RV transporter and needed to provide a battery to tow trailers to their location. When the second coach battery died, I had just stopped the RV transporter job, so I used this single battery in my Monty and it's still going strong. (I don't boondock at all, and I'm always connected to shore powet.)

All these batteries have cell caps where I have to refill with water periodically.

I should add that I can vouch that manufacturers DO NOT provide a battery. Like I mentioned, as an RV transporter, I had to use my own battery to transport the RV to its location, then I removed and stored it on my way to the next RV job. A dealer then decides or works with the potential customer what to provide. In all cases, a dealer that does not recommend at least a 12V deep cycle is doing the customer a HUGE injustice. Installing a car/truck type battery not being deep cycle is NOT recommended because they don't handle the severe discharging/recharging from an RV application.

When this battery in my rig finally goes bye bye, I plan to change to dual 6v batteries, since I've AGM, then maintenance-free, I've heard they are more powerful, discharge slower and last longer, but this last 12v battery is still going strong.

Looking for advice. I have a 3400RL 37 foot. Which batteries are better for these rigs? 6V or 12V?

Depends what you are doing. One 12v may be sufficient as described above. Two 6v in series provides more power than one 12v. Deep cycle/golf cart batteries are commonly used.

Dick I have heard the same about AGM batteries, then I contacted the manufacture of the converter in our 2016 3160 and was told that the charge system would work perfect with the AGM batteries. I need to get batteries and had decided that I would get Trojans normal wet cell 6 volt but now I might get the AGM's.

Another option that is dropping in price are lithium ion. There you will need a different charge setup. My 2000 watt inverter/charger is capable, so I'm waiting for the price to keep dropping. 6v and 12v batteries should only be discharged 50%. LiIon batteries can go through 100% discharge cycles. They are also much lighter. Over our 13 years of RVing we have gone from one 12v to two 12v batteries. From there we went to two golf cart batteries and then four golf cart batteries. That reflects our move from seasonal camping in the Midwest with annual vacations to retirement in the mountains of Colorado with a lot of boondocking. We belong to a local camping club that has a monthly Campout in remote areas without water or power. Hence the 2000 watt inverter, the four golf cart batteries and the ability to watch TV and brew coffe during quiet periods where running our two Honda 2000 generators would disturb neighbors. In other words, your battery configuration depends on how you use your unit. If you buy a Montana and park it on a season site for the year, a single 12v deep cycle battery should be fine. If you travel a lot, do occasional boondocking and/or have the residential fridge then two 12v batteries would probably be best. Anything more than that will have you talking generators, solar, inverters, 6v or LiIon batteries and $$$$'s. I hope this helps.

Tom,

We have the four Trojan 6v batteries, and have had the trailer plugged in for 4 mo. and I've noticed no water level changes. The Charge Wizard or whatever it's called doesn't seem to cook the batteries like the old ones did. Just FYI if you're still on the fence.

I believe I remember the rep from the converter manufacturer at the 2014 Goshen rally saying the AGM batteries charge fine as is, but the gel type batteries need a modified charger, which they can do with the same charger with a change, but do not remember what that was. We've been using two deep cycle RV/Marine maintenance free type batteries, and have occasionally boondocked with no problem. You just have to make sure you don't discharge them too far.
