Cable slides, things I should know
Since all our slides were hydraulic I never paid any attention. Now that we're going to have a cable slide, can someone tell me how the slides extend. I can figure out how they retract, but I'm stumped on how they extend.

the cable runs from the outside edge into the wall around a shaft then to the inside edge. so depending which direction the shaft is spinning either the outside cable end or the inside cable end will be pulling. the shaft is spun with an electric motor. a typical cable slide usually has a pair working together either top-bottom or left-right. hope this makes sense.

Just as a precaution buy your self a couple of slide locks just in case you have a issue with any of your slides, cable or hydraulic, this way you can manually lock it closed and drive home or to a repair shop.
I own a 2012 3750FL and I had a cable break on me a couple of years ago when I was retracting one of my living room slides. Luckily a friend of mine had a slide lock in his RV that I borrowed. I ordered the parts and replaced the cable my self.
I don't know if Keystone is still using the Bal slide rooms but that what is on my RV. If you have the same here's their website. It has all the info and manuals you need:

Over the bedroom slide above the bed is an access panel on the trim that you can remove to see the workings for the slide.

I make a kit to repair the cable ends. The ends will on occasion pop off especially if they are too tight, and all I have seen from the factory are. If you have a piece of 5/32 cable and one of my kits you can fix it on the go. Should take no more than an hour. Most of the time you only need to replace the end as the cable is still good. So it won't look like the I'm making I business of this I give them away.

All you guys with cables will need to carry a extra cable, crimper tool and cable cutter with you. Or take advantage of the kit Lynwood has been so kind to offer to offer to you.
If it's the bedroom slide only that has cables you shouldn't have much of a problem as there is not too much weight for the cable system.
If you have cables to all your slides it is not a case if your cable will break but when.
My previous 5th wheel had all cables and I'm talking from experience.

Good video on youtube showing how they operate and how to repair. The crimper is very expensive and I suspect it can be rented.

I've had several requests for the cable repair kits. I have several made up and will send them out ASAP but it's ground hog and motorcycle season. If I run out I will make some more this fall. If you don't receive yours please let me know.
