I checked ours on the trip home. It was a two day trip with 6-7 hours road time each day and the temperature increase was -3 to +5 the first day and the second day it was -1 to +8 degrees. Needless to say it holds the temperature very well while unplugged. The freezer was about 80% full.

Dave, I'm with "MontanaSky"....when I get mine, I'm only going to use mine as a beverage or convenience center while hooked up to shore power, and using it for convenience outdoors. I don't plan on storing frozen food in it as an overflow. Not sure what size I will be getting, I'll have to eyeball it first. I figure once you decide where you plan to store it, then just measure that space and buy the one that will best fit. I'm all about convenience...aka...chillin out Allison

Thanks, Allison. If we decide on a freezer later, we will probably put in out W/D closet in our 3400. Fridge in the basement will be something we will definitely look at.

Excellent information. We're thinking about putting one in the dining area and removing one of the chairs. Put a towel over it and you have an end table. Still debating.

Hi All,

We just put a 5 cubic foot freezer from Sears in our W/D closet (we have a 3400). Joe modified the door to swing open and put a strong magnetic catch to hold it closed. Sure is nice to have the extra freezer storage. Also installed a fan in the ceiling where the vent is.

With my sewing skills and Joe's metal skills we made a strap to go over the freezer so it won't bounce out of it's spot. It's screwed to the floor and has a velcro closure at the top.

I was in ABC Warehouse here in Mich two days ago and I saw the line of small Avanti fridges and freezers. The one thing that stood out to me was the big difference in the depth, in inches, between the Avanti product and all the others lined up next to it. At least 3-4 inches less of depth for the same comparable cu ft appliance. That would indeed be handy for RVs

Gosh as usual, what great ideas. Thanks again to all who are checking this out and to those who have answered. What is an ABC warehouse? Is it like a Sam's Club?

It's a long-time, appliance store chain here in Mich. Strictly appliances and electronics.

We recently were lucky enough to aquire a Norcold Freezer from some friends of ours who no longer RV, It's about 15"wide X 24" long X about 16"tall. I think it is about a 1.5-2 cu. freezer. It's is just tall enough to fit into the basement. However, it has a toplift door, so we had to get creative. Mel picked up an 8' Alum. angle Iron, a set of HD drawer glides, and a 2 X 2 X 3/4" piece of plywood and built a slide out. He has installed a 12V receptical but has yet to install the 110. The Slide works great, and is it ever nice to have an efficient freezer, that really keeps things frozen!
