Washer/dryer

We have a washer/dryer prep on our 3400 and thinking about giving up the closet for a stacker or single all in one unit. Anyone have any suggestions re type of unit and where to buy?? Thanx!!

We are glad we kept the closet. Holds a lot of things including the dirty clothes hamper, vacuum cleaner, broom, dustpan, etc. Plus, we hang a lot of clothes there. We use the area in the basement designed for clothes as an extra pantry.

Hi Jim and Cindy....we have the Majestic stackables that we got through our dealer and my wife loves them. We easily keep up on the laundry. She likes the individual units but i have heard that new single units (I think model #2100 Splendide) are getting better. We will see you guys in Del Pueblo and you can take a look at what we have. You will probably see some more posts on this subject and i know that some have the sears model and like them also....Les

We have a 3400 also and have the combo Splendide. We love it. The nice thing is we still have the shelves and the clothes rod. We also had a key holder bar (2 actually) and a clothes hook rack along the sides. Besides all the stuff on the shelves (I hooked wire baskets to the shelves so things travel well) we hang keys, flashlights, duster, umbrella, fly swatter, etc. from the key rack and sweatshirts on the clothes hook rack. Plus there is enough room on top of the w/d to sit a basket. One of the baskets on the shelf holds paper goods, bread, chips etc. when we are traveling so we can stop for lunch.
Happy trails.......................

Which ever machine you get, insure the warranty covers installation in a rv. I didn't state that very well. Make sure your machine is covered under warranty after it's installed in your monty.

Have the stacked units. The main reason--efficiency and capacity. To this point, stackables hold more and speed of the process to complete the wash/dry cycle is about what you experienced to at your stick house. Additionally the stacked units will allow a "full Load" of wash.

Maybe the decision wraps around how you plan to use the unit. If it will be your main stay for managing your laundry, stackables may be your choice. If your unit only serves as a backup system with the bulk of you laundry done elsewhere, you might think combo.

Wouldn't it be interesting to find someone with each kind of unit to try out with some wash before making your choice? Happy choosing...

Many thanx for the helpful input. We look forward to seeing Les and Sue's stackable in early Feb here at Del Pueblo ,Yuma. Does anyone know who makes the Splendide Combo?? Kinda like the idea of saving half the closet space.

We have the Majestic stackables. Majestic is honoring our warrenty to fix a bad shaking problem that actually makes the 5er dance. Also, ask Majstic for the revise manual due out soon. The old one is @#%##!@$#^%&*(*%^$%@#$%^&*.

Joe, does that mean you didn't like it? Looks like the only reason that you stopped describing it was that you ran out of keyboard characters?

I have seen manuals like that... Anyone ever buy a Motorola cell phone and try to find ANY useful info in the accompanying manual??? Love the phone... any questions result in a call or email to Moto though...

Don't know what these things cost..Googled some and see them in the 800 to 1000.00 $ range..is that average? The last time(this summer) we were at a non campground Laundromat it was 1.25 for the wash and .75 for the dryer that would be 400 loads of clothing at a price of 800.00 for the units. It would still be handy to have them on board.I am not a fan of laundromats..I am not a fan of doing laundry. We shall see...

We are using our closet for our ice maker right now. But the dw wants a combo like the splendide. $800 installed is the best price I have seen so far. Jack & Janet

Check out Camping World. They had a sales tag on one unit but I couldn't get close enough to see the details. Too many Winter Texans standing in line. They were giving away free hamburgers. Everybody showed up.....

We had installed a SPLENDID model 2100... This model is an all in one such that it also dries the clothes... The dryer vents to the outside unlike another SPLENDID model which vents through the water discharge hose, this is not as good as the 2100 model... Got tired of wasting time at the campgrounds laundry mat area and putting about 10$ of change to use 3 machines and 3 dryers... Granted the onboard machines do not hold as many clothes as a house model so you do smaller loads more often...

If you are FTing and using laundrymats, how much are you budgeting a month/year for laundry - with just 2 people?

One of the situations that I see is that as FTers, you do not have anywhere near the wardrobe that you have in a stick house - puposely, for the weight issue. Less clothes to cycle through means MORE frequent laundry washes - or am I wrong on this?

Dave and Cheryl,
We don't budget for laundry. It runs about $7.00 every two weeks. We have enough clothes to allow us undie changes every day plus emergencies. Plus, with our washer/dryer closet (no washer/dryer) we are able to hang a lot of items.

Ours was recommended by our Montana dealer and we've been extremely pleased with the stack. We've had in this Montana since July, 2002 without a single problem of any kind. And they've held up well during our 34 months of fulltiming. They are reasonably quiet and do not vibrate the rig. Just outside the washer/dryer compartment door and in the neighboring water closet you can feel a very slight vibration when the dryer is running and you are barefoot. If we were replacing them I'd look for the same thing.

Ours were made by Whirlpool and can be serviced by any authorized Whirlpool facility. They are marketed under the name "Conservator by Crosley." I don't know if our particular models are still available.

The model numbers, if interested, are --
Washer: model=CEDC3925JQ0
Dryer: model=CAWC529JQ0

Our dryer is vented to outside. We paid $1100 installed back in July, 2002.

There are other good brands out there also but these we are familiar with.

One thing to check on -- some come with a switch that lets you run either the washer or the dryer but not both at the same time. Ours does not have that switch. We can run both of ours at the same time the AC is running, even when connected to a 30-amp electrical source. That was also important to us.

Dsprik, you'd be surprised how many clothes we have in here. We carry clothes for all four season. What is out of season is in space bags under the bed. But, you're correct that we do not have as many clothes as we had in our stick home. I guess this is one of the reasons our 3295RK scales at 14,360 lbs with pinweight at 3,300.
