Water Heater Fix

Sure, hope changing the switch is your problem since that's an easy fix. I had the same problem of my heater not heating on the electrical side. Actually, found out that it had become unplugged inside and behind the water heater. Just plugged it back in and it has worked perfect sine.

It really isn’t a bad method. And is, in fact, a very common practice to use a relay using one voltage to control another device of a different voltage. The company I worked for designed and built very large safety control systems for electric generation stations and used relays like that frequently since we used various combinations of 5, 10, 12, +/-15, 28, 48, and 125 vdc and 120 and 240 vac depending on the application.

I think the problem with the water heater burned wires is like so many other burned wires on these units, and that is poor wiring practices.

When our electric water heater went out, I first found a fuse behind the breaker in the control panel was blown and then I had to replace the relay on the water heater. I was able to go inside the inside of my RV pantry. Remove the shelving to get a straight shot down of the relay.
