Grease and wheels
I am about to retire and hope to put some miles on my 5'er. Total so far is less than 2000.
How often do you guys grease and/or repack the wheel bearings?
I want to do all I can before heading out.

We do ours about once a year, for us about 15K miles. If you pump greese through the zirk fitting use only about two pumps per wheel. It doesn't take much to blow out a seal and have greese leaking, I learned that lesson the hard way. Every other year I take it in to have the bearings packed and new seals. A good time to adjust the brakes while the wheels are jacked up already. Have fun.

When we put our first 5000 miles on the coach we had Fox RV in Middlebury pull the wheels and check the bearings and adjust the brakes. (the brakes needed adjusted by the way) When I asked him the next time I should do the same he told me about 20,000 miles. I will be stopping at his place in Nov. to have everything rechecked. I will have the shackles checked also.

We do ours once/year whether they need it or not. Since we travel full time and put about 10-14,000 miles on the rig each year we figure that's best. Especially since Dexter HIGHLY recommends repacking each year. I figure it's good insurance.

I got a small grease gun at Wally World. I put two pumps in each zert the first of the month except for Nov & Dec when we don't travel. I then have local Dodge dealer pull bearings and grease and replace seals in July. So far no problems. We put on about 17,000 miles a year.

What can I expect to pay for a professional to repack the wheels, replace seals, and adjust the brakes?

Why do the trailer bearings need such TLC, when the truck wheel bearings can go on for ever?

It depends on who does it for you. My dealer does all that for around $100.
It's important to have it done professionally rather than use the self greasing points (my opinion only) because it doesn't take much to over grease. And Dexter recommends greasing once a year or 12,000 miles. I like their recommendation since we travel full time. The younger guys usually take their wheels off and check the brake linings and repack the wheel bearings themselves--not me.

Unless you REALLY KNOW the dealer or service department....DO THIS. Mark a few lug nuts on each wheel. On four different occassions I have taken units in for repacking and each of these I was told they would call me when done. When got the call went to pick up.... NONE OF THE MARKED LUG NUTS had been moved.... It's just insurance if you mark a few. Lets you know real quick which service centers you can trust and which one's you can't. Most hire younger help during the summer months and are probably not to reliable if not watched... JMTCW Safe travels John

John, a lot depends on your age. When I do it I remove the tire then the hub. When my son does it he just removes the complete tire and hub. He says my way it too much work. Therefore because your lug nuts have not moved does not mean your bearings were not packed.
