Roof Mount Satellite Dish

After much research I decided to go with the King Dome rather then the Winegard. The reason being the King Dome has the HD built into the unit and is programmable if any other satellites are added in the future. I went with the 15 inch rather then the low profile because of the extra gain of the larger dish. To help on height I mounted it back on the slope part of the unit. I had to make some special brackets to match the contour of the roof. This lowered the unit by 4 inches now I am 1 inch lower tan a low profile would be mounted on the flat part and I now have the advantage of the higher signal gain. I am very happy with how it works and I have more signal to the receiver then I do when it is in the house. The King Dome was also about $500.00 less. I purchased the 9704 which is automatic. All you do is push a button and it does the rest.

Nice set up but what about a CG site under the trees? Do you also have a portable dish?

Dave, I am on dish but it came set up for direct and I just programmed it to work on dish.

Glenn, I do have a dish on a tripod. I got tired of sitting it up for a overnite stop or in the rain that is why I went this route. I have tested in on my farm by parking it under trees and from what I have seen so far is, that it takes some pretty dense trees to totally block it. The Pine trees are the worse. That is also why I went with the 15 inch dish instead of the 12 inch.

Very nice job MUDCHIEF. Great pics. I take it that the base of your dish must be level.(or near level) Hence, the special brackets. Also, did you drill into the vent pipe or along side of it?

Lookout OZZ, you are losing ground LOL Just kidding OZZ, you do great work too.

Nice job Dennis!

I've only gone twice without a signal. Once in the trees, and once in thick fog. I carry a portable, but that doesn't help in the fog.

Yes, I have only once had no signal, it was in Manitou Springs (Sp??). There was a guy with a portable and tons of cable, he tried for a couple of hours, he finally gave up.
Don, that was my first Mod, (and possibly my most treasured.) I'm like Glenn, old school, the original television in the Montana looks just fine to me. I do have the dual LNB with Direct TV and Tivo.

Don, the base of the unit must be level unless you get the in motion unit. Which is more expensive. No I did not drill into the vent pipe. I went down beside it because on the 3400RL it is easy to do. However there were wires on both sides of the vent pipe as shown in the picture below. Control and light wire on one side and 120 volt stuff on the other.
