Kingpin jack

Question for you experienced people. Do you suggest using a kingpin jack? If so every time you set up or just when you’re going to be in one spot for awhile?

It might depend on which pin box you have. If it’s a MorRyde with the rubber suspension, a tripod stabilizer won’t do you a bit of good, as the rig can still move. If you have a six point leveling system, it probably won’t do you much good either.

Most (not all) of us have over time come to the conclusion that the tripod kingpin stabilizer is more suited for a boat anchor. It's cumbersome, heavy, takes up space while in transit, doesn't work well on uneven campsites, yah dee dah ... you can hardly give them away now days. JT Stabilizers or equivalent that attach to the landing gear legs are waaayyy better. Some say you can't install them on level up round feet ... Lipper makes a adaptor that welds or bolts on those round feet that puts you in business. I've installed JT's on 3 different level up systems in the past few years with the same success as the square legged electric jacks. You never have to remove them ... they just telescope up and down with your landing gear once the T handle is loosened.

Definitely agree with dieselguy! The kingpin stabilizer is a great anchor for the boat or anything that you need to hold things down. On our old rig we installed the JT Stabilzers and it worked wonders. On our new unit, which 2013, we have the 6 point level-up system and there is no need for it.

The Steadyfast stabilization system is the best, most effective on the market. JT strongarms are a close 2nd. We had the Steadyfast on 3 different rigs, we moved it from rig to rig until we sold the Montana and went to the coach.
Wheel chocks like the B A L X-chock also helps.

I think the only positive I've heard about those tripods is that they prevent you from whanging your head on the kingpin - which from personal experience on our last 5er, hurts. A lot! With sticky red stuff leaking out of the contact point on your head

It worked well when our rig had a W/D in front closet and no level system. Now we have the 6 point and the W/D is in middle above axels, so it is collecting dust in the shed

Only have been on the road for 7 months, having a 6 point system I don't feel the need for it and we always use our x tire chocks to help with the wind, washer/dryer.

I had a bi-pod for an earlier couple of Fifthwheels without the six point leveling system. I think it was effective but was directional, either parallel or side to side. Not as bulky as the other tripod. I think the six point leveling system is ok but I feel there is still a lot of wiggle in the Fifthwheel. I use adjustable wheel chucks between the tires and at times wish I had the bi-pod and a set of stablizer jacks in the rear. I don't like motion.
